Planning to play again, a few questions

The last time I played was about 8 months ago, and that was just about a 3-week stint before some RL shit took over and caused me to quit. A friend of mine wants to try the game so I'm gonna re-up and make 2 toons, 1 to play with him, and 1 to play a lot more because I know he probably won't play as much as me.

When I left, I wished I had rolled a warlock because they seemed to be damned good at everything, even soloing a few certain instances. Is this still the case? Or are servers so overpopulated with them now that locks can't get into any raid groups?

I'm really just looking to play a class that I can level up to 70 very quickly with, but still be able to PvP and find groups later on. The last time I played I was leveling a hunter and the leveling was ridiculously fast(40 in 2 days /played was fast for me), but end-game doesn't seem to have much use for hunters.

For light background, in my on and off WoW time I've played a rogue to 60ish, a paladin to 60, a hunter to 40ish, and a shadow priest to 58(i think). I loved being a shadow priest but it blew when I realized I would have to respec at end-game to get any raid-time.

I'm about to head to work for a few hours, hopefully I have some responses when I get back, I'm hoping to have some shit squared away and start playing as early as Sunday night. Also, anyone recommend any good horde servers? I don't want phat loot, just familiar names(and maybe some bags).

Locks are ridiculously broken (in favor of the lock).

quoted for truth

blizz used to have a giant hardon for rogues, now its locks

edit: that is to say, youll never have trouble finding a good guild or team as long as you have half a clue how to play a lock (emphasis on good)

Locks are still king in all areas and level as fast as virtually any other class.

Shadow Priests are now extremely desirable in end-game raiding situations because of their mana replenishing abilities.

Do not roll a hunter. As a general rule, I assume every hunter I meet is a complete idiot and do everything possible to avoid dealing with them. Too many xXxSSJGOKUJINxXx huntards have ruined the class' reputation beyond repair.

Hunters are a legitimate end game DPS class, and there are typically as many or more Shadow Priests as Holy Priests in a raid.

Locks at the very top end now are just shadowbolting. And who knows what WotLK will bring? The PvE parity in TBC is now at the point where you can even bring a ret pally to a bleeding edge raid. But it took a while for things to smoothe out for mages for example. Locks may well underperform at level 80 for 6 months until they get around to fixing them. So I think it's best to play what you think you will enjoy playing.

As a rogue, I go after warlocks. They're my easiest kills.

Yup, raids get mages to cast tables before switching out for something useful.

that's not true, they also get to cast amp magic on everyone before bloodboil, then be switched out for a lock

I'll probably never roll a hunter again, I liked the pet, I hated feeding it. You can level fast as a hunter, but then you're stuck being a hunter.

I didn't realize shadow priests were in high demand for raiding, is it more so than warlocks? I liked being a shadow priest because I could dish out a lot of damage in PvP, but quit playing him because I didn't wanna be forced to be a heal-monkey at end-game. I really enjoy DPS, and I've already done the whole rogue thing, I wanna do magic.

I'm guessing everyone is still spread out as fuck over all the servers?

I take that personally. While I agree on the part, that there are more than enough huntards, i would suggest sozialising with them in said context. So you can't be disappointed.

When i see hunters like megatf (who quit actually), levidian, cheeky, treisk (to some extent) and beasteh im happy.

On the other hand, if I see unters in my guild, who pretend to dps, but don't have the slightest clue of shot rotations, i cramp up.
