Some propaganda from Sony .. . .
"I think [the Blu-ray win] is a huge momentum builder for us and I think it is part of why we believe 2008 is going to be a monster year for the PS3. When you incorporate games like Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2...there will a great mixture of new IP and proven PlayStation brands. I think these factors are timed perfectly because our competition has already leveraged all their big assets in the first couple of years and may have punched themselves out of the fight. We are the [HD movie] standard and now we have the creativity and the products, so I think that formula is going to drive consumers to the PS3."
Don't shoot the messenger...
Grief 04-09-2008, 09:15 PM I don't really see how they punched themselves out. It's kind of a bad analogy.
Yes, Sony scored a victory with Blu-Ray, but they were going to whether or not MS tried to fight back or not.
Breyer 04-09-2008, 09:55 PM Oh shit son
Uncle Slappy 04-09-2008, 10:11 PM MS has already stated they can, and would, release a Blu-ray addon for the 360 if Blu-ray won the war. I don't see this as a knock-out punch. All MS did was force Sony to dish out ridiculous amounts of money for exclusives with studios.

Recently there was a release saying that MS wouldn't make a blu ray drive and didn't have plans to at the moment. It'll be third party if at all, at least for a while.

cant wait for little big planet.. also ms is going streaming/dl only as said above. the bluray comment was offhanded when they were attacked for not using hd-dvd as the main drive. the response was basically that they could and probably would release a bluray drive if bluray won. then again if ms went blu-ray, the ps3 would have a huge advantage in terms of "well it already comes with it"
Rooster! 04-10-2008, 07:29 AM No, because the most likely scenerio would be MS releasing a blu-ray equipped 360. The external drive would be for people that bought in prior to that.
No, because the most likely scenerio would be MS releasing a blu-ray equipped 360. The external drive would be for people that bought in prior to that.games still wouldn't be bluray based unless they wanted to nerf most of the current 360 owners. i think we can all take a que from sega that an external gaming device operating models doesn't work that well
Rooster! 04-10-2008, 07:57 AM Right but Blu-Ray reads DVD's, which are what xbox 360 games are, so I don't see the problem with a blu-ray equipped 360.
Right but Blu-Ray reads DVD's, which are what xbox 360 games are, so I don't see the problem with a blu-ray equipped 360.no gaming benefit and more expensive drives?
With the amount of money Sony has sunk into making Bluray the winner, the PS3 would have to sell an absolute shitload of units.
Rooster! 04-10-2008, 10:25 AM Nope, Blu-Ray hasn't shown any advantage over DVD for game distribution with the exception of Microsoft releasing multiple discs for big games (I believe some RPGs span multiple disks). The Blu-Ray 360 if it ever materialized would simply be intended to remove the "well the PS3 plays HD movies and the xbox doesn't" arguement for buying one over the other...at least for those that don't understand digital distribution or want physical media to "own".
The 360 has more than proven that consumers have no issues with DVD as the medium of choice for game distribution.

what is cheaper with manufactering and liscening atm, multiple DVDs or one blu ray?
Rooster! 04-10-2008, 01:02 PM I can only imagine DVD is cheaper, as they can be purchased in quantity for pennies and Blu-Ray costs far exceed that for blank media. There are also countless fabrication houses for normal DVD based media, and as such economies of scale make DVD seem like the logical choice.
It would be one thing if Xbox games were regularly 2-5 dics, but for most people, swapping happens on RPG's and even though are few and far between.
Anguish 04-10-2008, 03:27 PM Blu-ray is a useless technology for most people. The fact that it 'won' means shit all. It won a war very few people care about.
The benefits of your supposid "high def" are marginal on most home theatres and by the time the consumer has the surround sound AND HD tv to take advantage of it, I think the PS3 will be near the end of it's cycle.
The truth is that disc is terrible for gaming. Scan times are NOTICEABLE. It causes loading glitches and delays to anyone with a good enough eye to see it.
You know a gaming medium is fail when you have to write the same code on multiple spots on the disc just to help the read times.
Digital Download has a much brighter future. Most consumers dont CARE for 1080p. In fact, I don't even like watching shit on 1080p because it makes all the makeup and sets look FAKE.
So keep trying to brag that you can see lockes razor burn from the morning shave he had that day. I for one do not care.
Granite Gargoyle 04-10-2008, 03:56 PM MS is going the wrong way to make digital distribution mainstream by charging so damn much for a 20 gig HDD which quickly fills up given the size of movies, games, etc.. At least on a PS3 I can throw a huge ass HDD in it to accommodate what I want to download or whatever. I'm not paying $100 for a 20 gig HDD.
HariKari 04-10-2008, 06:20 PM I'm not sure what your son has to do with this
SeVeReD 04-11-2008, 12:11 AM Who cares about discs anymore, or even collecting files. I treat BlockBuster and their blurays like a library that I pay 20 a month for,,, if I want a Bluray title I can get it in 15 mins from my BB
scandal 04-11-2008, 02:54 AM Seriously SoD, consider a different career path.
