I'm not too experienced with windows wireless, but when I try to log into my schools network it says:

"Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network xxxxxx"

It never prompts me to login with my username/password, I believe its attempting to use the windows login? I'm not sure, I don't even login to my machine. However, is there a way to get it to prompt me to log into the network?

Are you suppose to have access to this network?

This error will typically happen when you try to connect to a wireless network which uses RADIUS, Active Directory and certificates for mutual authentication, and your machine is not a member of the domain, or it does not have the server certificate pushed out to it yet.

example:

You have a Domain Infrastructure.

You have a Remote Access Server policy setup to allow a specific group of users, and machines to join a wireless network.

You push wifi settings out using Group Policy to the users and machines which are part of the above group.

If a user and computer are both in that group they will be able to join the wireless network.

The certificate is to ensure that there is mutual authentication between the server and the client to establish an encrypted connection to transmit the machine and user security hashes.
