TAA WAR 04-02-2008, 05:54 PM I want to bulk up and build a lot of muscle, looked at some of the guides and know some of the stuff to get. Anyone have an extended list of good foods and possibly bad foods? Also what about money saving tips, eating healthy seems to be really expensive.
One other question. I have some muscle milk and whey protein, which one is generally better for building muscle? The muscle milk is a lot more expensive in comparison to whey.
Lord Elessar 04-02-2008, 07:13 PM as far as money saving goes, plan your meals 1-2 weeks at a time. Longer if you can. coupons are nice too. watch for deals. know which produce is in season. freeze extras- Welcome To SealAMeal.com (http://www.seal-a-meal.com/) that thing rocks for saving food.

sargonnas9 04-03-2008, 10:31 PM foods are only the fuel source, you need to be looking at supplements too. If you only take one, take creatine and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. If you follow the simple rules of taking creatine, you'll feel an immediate effect in your workout and see the results soon after.
Really, I cannot recommend creatine enough. It's THAT GOOD.

Wow, interesting. I've been looking into purchasing some to mix in with my post-workout shakes (chocolate whey, milk, fruit at the moment). What "rules" do you speak of?

I remember a few weeks back you posting about how you spend only $5 a day on food. What are some of the ways you do this?

Thats some damn good advice.
I remember a few weeks back you posting about how you spend only $5 a day on food. What are some of the ways you do this? That may be different now as I'm eating more but let's see:
7AM: 8 oz skim milk, protein, cottage cheese.
10AM: kashi bar, free from work
1PM: turkey, spinach on whole wheat bagel
4PM: 2 yogurts
7PM: varies, protein + whole grain + vegetables of some sort.
the protein is $7/wk, skim milk is $3/wk, turkey is $8/wk, spinach is $2/wk yogurts are $4/wk, dinner varies but I usually make a big amount of a meal and eat it for 3 days so I cook twice or thrice a week. I make a lot of soups and eat a lot of beans and brown rich these things are quite cheap. I supplement that with chicken, tofu, pork, beef ... whatever is on sale that week I shop around and use coupons. I find cuts of meat which are on sale and purchase those, they then dictate what I will cook that week.
Additionally I grow my own herbs year round and in the warmer months I grow some of my staple vegetables like tomatoes and squash in 12" pots inside. I can the tomatoes and use them year round. I also dry the herbs, they're easy to grow but very expensive.

im afraid of taking supplements...ive heard too many myths about stuff like creatine. like if you stop working out then you lose a lot of muscle mass really fast and it turns to fat.
:(

i think i'm interpreting what you're saying correctly, and if you stop working out then you DO lose a lot of muscle mass and it "turns into" fat.
*obviously it doesn't "turn into" fat, but if you stop working out your body doesn't think you need that muscle after a while, and of course if you don't exercise you will gain fat, so the result is the same.
extra supplements like creatine and even steroids have an effect but a very small (almost unnoticeable) effect. it's the work, the lifting and exercise that is the biggest factor.
one of the reasons steroids work so well is because they make you feel good, when you're sore all the time this helps, but don't start thinking supplements are magic.
people who've taken steroids will tell me shit like they're all hairy because of it and i just laugh. cosmetic anatomy is affected mostly by genetics, exercise, and regular nutrition.
the dudes in my gym who juice have terrible acne. it's easy to pick them out. If that was the only side effect, I wouldn't think it was worth it.

i definitely have to back you there.
i know guys who juice who never acne so i think it's a combination or something, maybe it depends on the type of steroid
SkivviS 04-08-2008, 08:54 PM ok yeah that sounded pretty dumb. obviously you lose mass and gain fat eventually if you stop werking out. what i was getting at was myths that say you gain the fat drastically faster than if you hadnt used creatine. as if your muscles were filled with water balloons that burst and sagged and shit after you stop working out.
i dont plan on stopping or anything, but just wondering about side effects in general i suppose.

rukkus 04-16-2008, 12:50 PM is skim milk better than unsweetened soy milk if your goal is to lose weight while adding some muscle?
