Yeah, I wouldn't do ice cream, either.

But stick with the whey and the 1% (low-fat, skim, whatever) milk and add different fruits, yogurt (mix and match with the fruit), oats (as you said), flax etc.

I've even added cottage cheese to one of my shakes: vanilla whey powder, 1 peach diced up, peach yogurt (I use this Light n' Fit stuff), cup of cottage cheese, splash of milk, and blend. It's like eating one of those little cottage cheese "cups" (you know, the ones with the cheese on one side, fruit for mixing on the other) but in smoothie form. Overall, be creative.. just not mint ice cream + banana + marshmallow whey creative, and it'll work out.

i just dump 30g of generic chocolate walmart whey protein in a glass of water and chug it after workout

you have to eat some carbs along with the protein shake after you work out to supply your body with glucose. otherwise your body will break down muscle protein to make its own glucose and your workout will be worthless.

carbs = whole grains not powdered sugar. foods with high glycemic index will give you diabetes.

The idea is that your body is sucking up all the glucose in your blood it can trying to replenish spent glycogen, so you want something that will get into your blood pretty quick.

I use about 50g of malto. It seems to reduce overall fatigue the next day after a hard lift. Many things I read recommend much higher doses of carbs, but I am not sure I could stomach much more. Malto is like fucking paste.

Sometimes I put regular table sugar into my PWO protein shakes. Like 2 or 3 spoons. But usually not.

I feel like all the sugar in 20 oz of milk, 1/2 cup of oats, and a whole fucking banana is enough usually.
