All this shit is odd. I got my TF2 fix in beta/first month of release. If anything, all this new bull shit will have me playing even less than I do now.

its as though this game was never meant for real competition rather for bullshit casual play only... i guess i assumed too much.

obviously -- simply allowing unlockables shows they don't give a damn about competition. comp doesn't have to include em, but still...

and I agree with snowman. I am the casual player and this shit just turns me off even more. I don't want to join a server with guys who have some badass weapon because they've been whoring a class for 3 months.

they are trying to treat TF2 like a mmo or something and include expansions, which is just lame. did tribes, quake, etc. need expansions?

It sounds to me like the new unlockables aren't designed to be better than the current weapons, but rather different, with their own strengths/weaknesses. I'm looking forward to them. More diversity is good, especially for the currently broken (i.e. boring) Medic class. I have faith that Valve won't make the unlockables too difficult to get or too overpowering. It's not like their achievements (e.g. Heal a Pyro!) are that challenging.

And after all, TW could just make a pub server and have people get on it and take turns getting each achievement. It would probably take a few hours the day the patch is released.

except for the whole 10,000,000 healing points thing.

I don't like any sort of achievements or ranks either, but there are hordes of noobs on the Valve forums who sit around asking "How long til I get my virtual achievements? I can't wait any longer OMG!!@" For one thing, playing a video game is the opposite of achieving something.
