[Pubs] Quality degrading as game ages?

I've noticed that since I've been playing, the quality of skill in pubs is steadily decreasing. Many have devolved into m203, P90, and 3frag spamfests.

I think I'll be playing on closed/clan servers from now on.

If anything shouldnt the skill increase?

No. Anyone who's played for a decent amount of time now doesn't care whether or not the server's ranked. So we can go to modded servers with lower %s of gay and this does degrade the ranked pub servers.

If play on PC, check out some modded servers w/ like cal rules running. The difficulty level there is definitely increased several notches there.

I'm probably not looking hard enough, because most of the times I'm browsing for servers I don't see alot with PAM/CAL in the servername.

Not quite cal weapon set, but most of it (1 semi auto sniper and shotgun, but people rarely use use these in there, and also grip on the lmg, which isn't legal in cal). Only cal perks. No special or frag grenades, and always the motw for cal. TDM, very good players, great way to improve your shot. Lack of grenades makes camping a bit annoying, but still better than a nade spam.

Awesome. Thanks I'll check it out. I've been finding it really hard to find a decent pub and it's not terribly easy for me to get into PUGs since I'm not involved in the competition scene right now.

The PUGs and scrims I've played in were always TWL rules before... going to that server you suggested gave me my first taste of the CAL ruleset. First impression was not terribly positive as it seems like they tried to turn it into CS 1.6 with basically everything disabled.... which is fine since there are a lot of CS converts in CoD4 and from a pure competition point of view I understand trying to level the playing field...

But one thing that made me stop playing CS and going to CoD4 is that the out of the box game (as flawed as it may be) seemed like the natural evolution of CS to me.

Though ultimately I'll go wherever I can find good players... not sure how TWL and CAL stack up against each other skill wise but I suppose I'd need to learn to love the CAL ruleset regardless.

Still, I appreciate the info and will start to check these out.

It definitely strips a lot of options and maybe they'll put in a couple new things (at least from the tier 3 perk set) for second season, but some things like.. stun grenades, 3 frags, semi auto sniper rifles, really are imbalanced.

That server has no grenades at all, so like I said, it creates some other problems, but it is a great place to improve your shot.

The pugs though are ok. I'd really only want to see the semi auto shotty, extreme conditioning, and steady aim added. Everything else I think they got right.

Well I was going to say - double tap, overkill, UAV jammer, extreme conditioning, iron lungs, dead silence... I see no compelling reason to remove these and they add some needed variety.

I'm fine with most of the weapon or special kit (stun, etc) removals... though RPGs and C4 aren't terribly unbalanced and downright comical sometimes.
