Black1ce 03-16-2008, 06:19 PM Why do my legs hurt after I run for a short distance?
Examples
Today a receipt flew out of my truck, I sprinted after it and retrieved it. I then started walking back to my apartment and my legs were in PAIN. It's not the front of my legs, it's my calves. I'm not physiologist, but shouldn't the human body be able to withstand a quick jog?
Also, I play Ultimate a lot. It's a sprint, stop, sprint, stop type of game. After a couple sprint and stops my legs feel the exact same horrible ache/pain
What the hell do I do to fix this? Is there some stretch that I don't know about? It almost feels like my calves fill with blood too quickly...
John the Jammer 03-16-2008, 10:21 PM i love ultimate
Black1ce 03-16-2008, 11:09 PM the BACK of my legs?!?! are shin splints? okay what
it feels like muscle aches coming from the back not from the bone
Thumper 03-16-2008, 11:18 PM dehydration could be a factor or lack of stretching before. My calves will hurt a bit in the first half mile but it goes away after that. Could also be the way you run.
Black1ce 03-17-2008, 12:22 AM the way I run?
I run wrong?
how do i know if I run correctly?
Radon006 03-17-2008, 01:35 AM Hmmm Gee I dunno bro. Maybe you should stretch or warmup or something??/
nah.... it's probably some weird bone deficiency bro.. see a doctor STAT.
gRraWr 03-17-2008, 02:10 AM are you running on your heels?
when you play sports like ultimate it's easy to run lazy because there's so much of it and you have to change directions and shit.
run on your toes, slow down your reaction time and replace it with a steadier focus. wear good shoes.
Radon006 03-17-2008, 02:44 AM ^^^
what?
Here's some good info:
When you sprint without warming up it hurts.
When you're out of shape and you run you'll get sore.
if you plan on running buy some shoes.
Hate to break it to you but that's how the body works when you're 20+
Mr. Hated 03-17-2008, 09:32 AM hi blackice
i run on a treadmil without any shoes to strengthen my feet and calves. so i think whats happening with you is your shoes are doing a really good job at making your feet lazy. what kinda shoes you wearing anyway? do your feet hurt too?

WHUT???
have you ever played ultimate? you don't think about how you're running, you just run because its a game with a ton of running.
i get what he's saying about stop and go sprinting and it was the best advice i could think of. it's so easy to let your legs do whatever they want when there's that much running, don't react with your legs so much when you're going for that interception, retrain the way you run. play smarter not harder and stay off those heels.
(and yeah, i get sore the same now as i did when i was 14 and im 25, just sayin)
Fuzzy 03-17-2008, 11:45 AM maybe you have the jaundice

I don't disagree with your advice, i was just amazed at how straight faced you're talking to a guy who asked such a stupid question.
Black1ce 03-17-2008, 06:08 PM grawr, much appreciated. I think you're right, I'm not concentrating on my form when I play ultimate and I think I'm letting my heel land way too much. Thanks for the serious answer, it's the only that made sense
Radon: fuck off. I do my stretches, I am extremely active, and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. sorry 2 be so dum 4 u
Thumper 03-17-2008, 11:37 PM the way you run meaning do you run more on the balls of your feet or do you do the heal to toe motion. Also, get a good pair of shoes. I was a new balance finatic until I tried a pair of Nike's running shoes. Now ill never buy anything else.
gRraWr 03-18-2008, 01:58 AM i've played a lot of basketball so i know about this kind of stuff. made this mistake a zillion times.
i do like nikes

i don't know why, but for some reason the proper "form" in my mind was heel to toe
I think this was from years in marching band
I know this is fucking retarded, so I apologize now :) Thanks for the help.
Thumper 03-18-2008, 12:50 PM i know a lot of people that I play soccer with that have a tendancy to run more on the balls of their feet. No idea why but they do.
I can accelerate faster that way but it causes some cramping if I continue to run that way.
gRraWr 03-18-2008, 02:39 PM yeah okay whatever kobe...
