Lately I've fallen back inlove with the wall of sound. I used to not care for the Spector sound but as I've gotten older I've really started to appreciate the production value.
If you had to select a top 5 "best produced" album/song list what would be on it?
I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur, so I'm really eager to see some of your suggestions.
Mine goes:
1. Smashing Pumpkins / Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness (spec. Dawn to Dusk)
2. Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Loving Feeling
3. Braid / Frame and Canvas
4. RJD2 / Since We Last Spoke
5. Odd Nosdam / No More Wig for Ohio
not sure if these exactly qualify, but:
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Loess - Wind and Water
Morbid

This is just way too broad of a topic.
I mean some shit sounds better raw and some shit sounds like crap because it's way too over produced even though the quality is awesome.
However this topic should be limited to a genre or even a sub-genre because it's just way to fucking broad of a subject.
Do you see what I'm getting at?

Yes, but honestly I left it broad to avoid limitations.
The question can be as subjective as you want it to be, and I leave your choices to that. It could be the quality of mixing or lack thereof for all I care. I know my suggestions vary similarly.

This is a stupid thread. That RJD2 album is trash. And who the fuck is braid? just some punk pop bullshit band? Fuck you.

I totally did the wall of sound thing and even when I think I'm in a "stripped down" space, it still comes out sounding like a wall of sound. Minimalistic mixes are just not my bag. When I listen to other producers' output in the miinimalistic thing, I get it, but it never seems to translate to the kind of sound I'm going after.

black keys - thickfreakness
recorded in a basement
the keys are fucking great, my favorite band out right now. their new album is decent, first album in a real studio with a real producer (danger mouse). it's a bit weird at first (WAY to overproduced for the keys, but that's not saying much), but it's been growing on me a lot.

Ocean Machine - Biomech
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain
these two albums define "wall of sound" for me

The mixing on the RJD2 is probably some of his best work imo. I love you.

Too bad all the songs are awful and cheesy. Deadringer ftw. Or I get down on third hand.

New album is different, but still really good. Going to see the Black Keys in May, can't wait.
