Dirty Sanchez 03-09-2008, 06:27 PM Ive been reading forums and doing searches and it seems that COD4 doesnt like some sound drivers, or that sound is a big reason behind some of the jumpiness in online play. Has anyone found anything to correct this, or at least make it less noticeable?
I went from an Audigy 2 to an X-Fi
Raised my fps considerably and never stuttered again. I thought bullshit when I read that it would help your fps, but it raised it way more than the 15% it advertised, so I'm beyond happy. For $50 too.
Shadow13 03-10-2008, 05:21 AM audigys were known to cause major fps hangups in a lot of games due to the lack luster processing it did. I noticed a huge difference also, like |V| but because of space requirements had to stick to onboard for my sli rig.
Until I can afford to buy an 8800/9800 GTX (which the 9800 should be out in nov) I will have to deal with it, but I reccomend x-fi very much.
I use the integrated audio on my Gigabyte mobo and explosions cause a freeze up every so often. Not enough to thoroughly irritate me but I haven't been able to find a solution.
Homerpf 03-10-2008, 12:21 PM I just use the inboard sound on my nforce 3 board.

I also have an nforce 3 board, but using X-Fi I saw an increase (Albiet not a 15% increase) from using the card, but like I Said I can't really use it because it won't fit in my case with 2 video cards and im too much of a poor fucker for an 8800.
Ben Dover 03-13-2008, 04:47 AM I've got an Audigy SE and I've got a solid 100fps at almost all times.
Dirty Sanchez 03-14-2008, 03:26 PM I changed to an old Hercules Game Theater XP soundcard my friend gave me and im totally buttery smooth now, what a difference a soundcard makes
g0ds gReeN 03-14-2008, 03:37 PM hmmm, i used to have a little bit of stuttering while running at 1024 but i just figured it was my video card. i switched to 8x6 so i don't really stutter much now. i'll definitely have to look into my soundcard now though as i'm having doubts.
Dirty Sanchez 03-14-2008, 04:51 PM if you're using onboard sounds its defiantly something id look into.
Pilky 03-14-2008, 07:03 PM wow, didnt know onboard sound made that much of a difference, my little 7800 GT needs all the help it can get.
g0ds gReeN 03-14-2008, 09:13 PM well i use an audigy right now, but it's not the latest and greatest obviously so looking into a newer card (video first (7600gt) then audio) hopefully i get better frames. ARG if i only had the money :(

haha same here man, i got the money but im just too cheap to spend $230ish on a card right now.
What are you looking to get?
Dirty Sanchez 03-20-2008, 07:50 PM i just ditched XP and went to Vista Ultimate 64-Bit.
Using my onboard sound my game is silky smooth. My PCI card isnt supported by Vista, hence my use of onboard. Vista 64 seems to be running COD4 better than XP did. Who'da thunk it?
SP1 too btw :)
{CG}Pendragon 04-01-2008, 02:29 AM My Audigy 2 ZS works flawlessly.
I am not sure of my FPS, but I would estimate them to be in the 60-90 range:
Gigabyte P35 mobo
Pentium D940 (3.2Ghz)
4GB RAM
ATI X1950 Pro 512
Audigy 2 ZS
I have two installs of WinXP now - the version is just for games and lacks all the extra crap on the main install - lots of services disabled, no print drivers, no Office, etc.
I installed some new Realtek soundcard drivers and the problem is greatly reduced.. although still present.
I bet an independent sound card would solve the problem.
[SES]BaNsHee 04-02-2008, 03:56 PM Strange that sound drivers can do this. :o

by summer, i'll be able to store money away (or into) a new mobo/cpu and at least 1 8800 gt (i don't need the latest greatest stuffs) to primer for a dual SLI config. by then, prices should be good
