Eliptical machinesAFrame 03-09-2008, 11:55 AM Anyone have recomendations for eliptical machines otherwise known as coat racks. would be used for light to moderate workouts Thank you Radon006 03-09-2008, 06:23 PM I use them for HIIT. Crank the resistance to 15/16 and sprint as hard as i can for 30 seconds. They don't have to be girly. AFrame 03-09-2008, 09:30 PM thanks but this would be girly ,for wife was told that once you get past being moved like a marionette it can be a good workout Radon006 03-09-2008, 10:00 PM I've spent so much time on elliptical machines over the last 3 years that's it's as natural for me as walking. I know they got some that have a shorter stride, and I refuse to use them. Definitely some are more comfortable than others. I like it because it's low impact, and an injury prevents me from running. I prefer it to the stationary bikes because I can workout a good deal harder without filling up with lactic acid, and the seats get uncomfortable after 10-20 minutes. Calorie to effort ratio it's better than most activities, but I'd definitely run instead if I could. Wendel 03-20-2008, 09:55 AM i like to use the mode where it makes you switch the direction of motion every few minutes. this ends up REALLY burning out my legs. :bigthumb: Fuzzy 03-20-2008, 04:34 PM u mean the gay man skiis? Nikita 03-20-2008, 10:17 PM This is my only means of cardio at the gym. Gives you a fantastic workout if you push yourself. If you have good balance (or at least work your way up to eventually having some), don't bother grabbing the handles. Try to swing around for a total body workout. Try different angles as well, changing it up as you do your 30-minute routine. Can build legs and tone your ass very nicely this way. So I'm sure you and the wife will both appreciate that. :P I average about 4 miles in 30 minutes on these. Radon006 03-20-2008, 11:55 PM This is my only means of cardio at the gym. Is this because you got used to using it and don't get the workout you want with a smaler stride? Obviously the height/skill of the user will impact what size/stride would work best. Larger stride = better workout. Going to hit the Y and try out some of the equipt. get a feel for the different kinds. I don't think sears (any store) would go for people showing up in their sweats for a real workout. THanks again Radon006 03-21-2008, 03:39 PM Actually I guess I can't talk about shame since I'm the guy in there who spazzes out for 30 seconds every couple minutes in my university gym with a bunch of hot girls all around me. I also can't help but lean on the machine face for 10 or 15 seconds after an interval towards the end. The nice thing is when you're working out that hard you don't give a shit what anyone thinks at all. Edit: yeah I'm 5'8 and I gotta use the big boy machines. If you're more than maybe 6'1 or 6'2 I couldn't imagine any of them would be at all comfortable. Chimera 03-22-2008, 11:44 AM I'm 6'1" and I go on them for an hour and don't feel uncomfortable. Burns about 700 calories an hour at a moderate pace. I do intervals with the resistance at 4 and 10 with a slight incline. Really the only thing preventing me from going harder is my water bottle is kind of small. | ||
