Any good ones? I checked musiciansfriend.com but the two cables listed both have shit reviews.

Sounds like this is a great idea that was never implemented well :(

on a related note.
Hendrix Effects (http://www.amplitube.com/Main.html?prod_ATJH.php)
I saw this product and "bought" it for kicks. the guy i got it from said Radio Shack has the cable pretty cheap.
That site has a link for stealthplug (http://www.stealthplug.com/prod-SP.php) but it's not cheap.

I would have already bought the cable and tried this out, then made it available here. problem is i don't even own a guitar anymore.

Guitarport is the type of thing you'll find, SL83.

Thanks Stil. I ordered that. If it sucks, I'm holding you personally responsible, but I trust your judgement on things such as this.

:D
It allows you to plug into your computer.
It also is full of amp sounds and effects.

Couple it with the riffworks software and you have an easy way to play along with any input from you computer and record it.

Guitarport is great but I learned when I built my computer that it's not compatible with Vista 64 or any 64 bit operating system. :(

Yeah, I don't use 64 bit or Vista. So I'm set ;)

Even the new version?
3.51? I think or 3.50?
The one on the cd wouldn't work on my computer either, but the download from Line 6 works just fine.
I have VHP.

Yeah there's a lot of people complaining about it on the GP forums. I'm thinking of just setting up a virtual drive with Windows XP so I can still use it. It's great for just fucking around.

I had guitarport for a week or two. I liked it okay, but I didn't like the latency. You'll need a really fast computer to get it down to acceptable levels (I ran it on my AMD 3700+ with 2gb RAM).

I just went back to my old M-Audio Delta 44 and a pirated copy of Guitar Rig 2. Plays great, sounds great, 2ms latency. I ebayed the Guitarport for $10 less than what I paid for it.

Another option is to get a floor pedal with a USB interface (like a PodXTLive). I bought one recently for half of what they go for new, because the newer version just came out. Score.

Yeah I'm looking at getting something different now like an M-Audio since this shit won't work on Vista 64 and I don't feel like reinstalling. I even tried running an XP virtual machine but the program that you use to update the drivers for GP locks up.

Hmmm - Stil, I thought GuitarPort is all I needed to record myself onto my PC. I have to buy Riffworks also? :\

get Audacity. it's freeware.

Yeah, basically what I am doing right now is using Audacity to record from the Line In jack of my soundcard.

I have a cable going from the stereo output on the Guitar Port to the line in jack on my soundcard. I though the sound would go through USB, though.

I have to read up on the effects and stuff - cause I am absolutely retarded with that, and it provides a MUCH cleaner sound recording than the Microphone I was using. But I could have basically just gotten a guitar jack to minijack cable and done what I wanted without guitar port I think.

Oh well. When I get more advanced and need the effects, it will be cool.

Mine came with it?
That bundleshit - monkeyworks downloaded it once I had regged the hardware.

Riffworks is different from the Line6 Monkey app. Monkey is basically an app to maintain the rest of your apps; updating as necessary.

Riffworks is a seperate, purchaseable product. SL83, if you're just getting started playing, a GuitarPort might be great for you after all. It has a whole section devoted to lessons from all your favorite artists. I was impressed. Had I not known how to play guitar already, I would have gone apeshit for it. As it stands I still get Guitar World mag and try the lessons every now and then.

As if I already know how to play. I've never stopped learning.

Aye - so - after talking with Stil - I realized I am a moron and didn't need to double input the guitar port. So I'm recording directly from USB now into Audacity.

My one problem is this: I tend to like Acoustic guitar a lot. I have an electric acoustic. In GearBox, when I turn off all the effects just to have straight through from my acoustic - the record volume is way too low. I've turned everything up, and even used the sound boost in Gearbox. The boost does a lot better, but it is still really low.

Guitar volume up. Knob on the Guitar Port all the way up. Volume in Gearbox all the way up. Sound Boost on.

If I turn on the effects and do something like: Boulevard preset - it's loud and clear.

Any ideas?

Speaking of computer shit, is there any program out there kinda like Guitar Rig that works with Vista 64?
