I bought a wired intellimouse for my laptop, but it randomly decides to cut off. Sometimes when I move it, the mouse will still work, but the little light on the back will flicker like its gonna turn off or something. Other times, it will randomly cut off and takes replugging or occassionally a readjustment to come back on. This gets really annoying when im playing games  Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm running Vista if that makes a difference.

How old is the laptop..
Does another mouse work with it??
Drivers up to date??
You may want to try uninstalling the mouss driver, re-downloading it(without AV on) and reinstalling...
If a new mouse, you may be better off after a few trys of trouble-shooting, of returning and exchanging for another...

The laptop I got over winter break this year. Every other mouse works, all drivers are up to date (at first I let vista install its own drivers for the mouse..then when the problem started occuring more frequently i installed the intellipoint suite). I've done multiple reinstallations including with AV off. I'm not sure if I can return it because I got it from a seller on amazon :/ Thanks for the help!

If it's within a year since you bought the mouse I'd consider returning it for a replacement, or call Microsoft. The few times I've owned these mice I've had a variety of obscure problems, and when I required a replacement Microsoft was very very quick to replace it, shipping me a brand new un-opened replacement. I didn't even have to return the old ones.
It sounds like the cable's worn out in some part of the mouse, either one of the leads in the mouse has become loose or broken off and is scarcely making contact, or the USB dongle's got a flaky connection in it's end.
Seriously though, these things have a year warranty, if you're out in the middle of nowhere call Microsoft and ask about a replacement unit, otherwise take it to the nearest retailer that outlet you bought it from and go for an exchange.

Yea, I don't let MS OS install their 'drivers' whatever they may be, Just Me ===> I use the driver CD from the hardware and from its site even though this is MS... Hash is saying what I think too bout the actual mouse.... Follow Hash's recommendations and see if MS will help you....
GL and let us know how this goes so we may learn too...

Ok so I called the supplemental parts for MS, gave them my product ID and all that, they tell me they are shipping me a new one free of charge/don't need to send back the old one. Should be here in a week or so (they didn't have any in stock at the factory at the time). I like this kinda customer service :) I believe the mouse I purchased was used from 02, so if the warranty is still good, I'm really pleased about it.

Well then they're being very generous, those mice only have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
