the burn

so i've been working out for the past 2 weeks or so

initially i'd feel the "burn" afterwards - muscle soreness. pecs sore to the touch, etc.

at this point though, i don't feel as much soreness after exercising like i used to.

should i be pushing myself harder?

or was i wrong in the first place and overexerting myself?

i don't believe there has been any research that proves DOMS (soreness) is related to muscle growth

that being said i would always be pissed if i wasn't sore 24-48 hours after i worked out, so i would say push yourself harder by either:

a) increasing weight
b) increasing sets
c) decreasing rest between sets

or any combination thereof

the lack of soreness can also be a result of your body getting used to working out.

It's a poor indicator how well you have worked out really, but as always you should aim to increase weights etc.

That's to be expected. Some people, like myself, get sore after every workout. My brother does the same workout with me and is rarely sore unless he takes some time off. We've paced each other in gains for a long time.

I'm the same way, sore at first but after working out a while it went away, I found that I would be sore again after a particularly good workout(pushing myself a little harder)

So I'm in the 'push harder' camp.

I always get sore on the second day off after a workout. Every. Single. Workout.

less soreness is usually a sign of quicker recovery, in the simplest of terms

if you're following a workout plan and are still making gains, i wouldn't worry about pushing any harder

If i take time off and go at it again i'll be sore but i'm one of the people that after 2 weeks wont really feel that burn again unless I do something drastic in my routine.

I'm like you.

I wish I had a brother to workout with though :(

When i took a really expensive protein i would be extremely sore after every workout the next day. What you need to do is stretch when sore to get the scare tissue broken up and release the muscle fibers and get ride of that built up acid. This will give you a faster recovery time so you can push yourself even harder the next week.

I really only get doms when the crossfit wods hit a streak working one group consistently for a couple days.

Worst was after the 400m walking lunges. Most deceiving workout I've done yet.
