Patellar tendons are gay [Wine]

FINDINGS: The patellar tendon shows subtle increased signal in its superior aspect centrally. The tendon appears slightly thickened in this area. Chronic patellar tear with superimposed acute re-tear is suspected. The surrounding fatty tissues show mild edema, and there is a small amount of fluid tracking along the lateral side of the tendon. These findings are best seen on series 3 image 14, 15, and 17. The rest of the extensor complex is normal. The patellofemoral compartment shows normal articular cartilage, bone, and reinaculum. There is a small joint effusion.

[After this it just says the rest of my knee is fine]

IMPRESSION: There are changes at the superior aspect of the patellar tendon, suspected chronic and acute partial tendon tear.

This is MRI result. 8 months old but I'm about where I was at when they took it.

Got a doctors appointment on Friday hopefully they'll have a magical solution because it sucks dick not being able to run, jump, and play. Can't even deadlift :(

Please come in here and make me feel better about my situation but not by telling me how bad others have it but rather by telling me I'm going to get better.

its only a partial tear not a full tear so given enough time I'd think it would recover

but you aren't going to be deadlifting for a long time

someday with enough rest tho it should be good as new

Try to take some classes on POSE running... your knees will never hurt again

Check and see if you have an external rotated and posterior tibia along with a anteverted femur. Improper body biomechanics could be hindering your ability to heal/contribute to the condition.

dude, i have patellar tendonitis in both my knees. shit HURTS man, it really fucking sucks.

How i recovered:

1. Got good jogging shoes. I was running miles on old shitty ones, so yes, i now have more proof that i am stupid.

2. Physical Therapy

3. I bought these knee straps from walmart, and i wear them when i run on the treadmill. i got no pain as long as i wear these straps when i run.

Are they straps that rap around your leg just below the knee (over the pateller)?

If so I might have to try those out. I tried something like it in physical therapy made from tape, but it didn't help. I'll have to give those a try though.

Also I have good asics running shoes that I wear full time with custom inserts that are foot doctor approved.

I also have it on both knees, or at least have something on my left knee, but it's a lot more manageable and only shows up if I do some real high impact activities.

By the way are you able to play basketball or any other sports where you're jumping or sprinting/cutting?

EDIT: also: What did you find useful in rehabilitating? Lately I've been hearing quite a lot about eccentric one legged squats on a decline platform to load the tendon, where you focus on descending slowly (about 3 seconds).

I guess that's more for tendonisis though, which is after the tendonitis has stuck around for a while usually over 6 months and isn't just an injury you can rest to heal.

Woot! doctor hooked me up with an "aircast infrapatellar band"

It appeared to help a little bit with the squatting motion. Anyways sounds like I'm sitting with Tendonisis and hopefully with this band I'll be able to work my way up to running etc. over the course of the next year, and if not they can fillet my patellar, remove the shit tissue, and hopefully 4-6 months later I'd be set.

So either way I got a nice long road ahead of me and I'm just praying this band is my ticket.
