On February 25th Electronis Arts uppped their bid for Take-Two, the makers of Grand Theft Auto series, to $26 a share.

While the main focus seems to be the GTA property, Take-Two has a large group of sports titles that may be the real target EA has in mind.

Acquiring Take-Twos sports titles would consolidate EA as the main sports title producer.
Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities, said Take-Two's sports business would be the most lucrative for EA.

"The whole world seems to think this is GTA and nothing else," he said, adding that the franchise "is the best asset for everybody except EA."

Wow, a game studio actually not buckling to the big gaming publishing monopolies? Good for them, glad to see someone sees more than just zeros on a check.
