A friend of mine has an account he wants to unload and im unsure of the safe(r) places to do so.

the character is worth more than 1,000. He's cutting me a %, so i sure as hell wont mind helping him.

Other than craigslist for a local exchange, what else can be suggested? :D :D

*edit* ebay was suggested. including expectancy to have it removed fast, but at least word gets out */edit*

probably estimating off several characters' value combined - almost no character is worth 1k anymore (unless you had some flawless warrior account with literally everything)

Sounds like your friend is over-estimating the value. Even Hyjal/BT geared toons dont sell for more then $600 from what ive seen.

To answer your question though. Ebay is still fairly effective to sell an account on. Just leave an email and instant message they can contact you on in the description and say youll take buyout offers. Dont give too much individual character information that can identify the exact toon like character name or realm name and edit them out of any SS's you post. Also be careful of scammers impersonating blizzard employees on the email you list.

WoW sales are banned on eBay and they may end your auction early but its still worth a try.

Buy WoW accounts, WoW US accounts, and WoW EU accounts (http://www.toonstorm.com)

I sold one of my characters there awhile back, had no problems with them.
You fill out this long ass form about what gear you have and etc,and go into the "live chat" where they will give you an offer.

yeah. not posting any char name or info for sure.

and i dont think $1000 is overpriced.

BE Holy Paladin, downed illidan 5-6 times,
3 (possibly4) of the highest tier pve gear.
ZA bear mount,
half season3 arena holy,
very good ret set (BT 2h)
spellhaste set, melee haste set

all with epic gems and best enchants

insane amount of misc stuff (trinkets)

...

the hard part is getting the info out to 'customers'

im gonna host a page on my website with all the info and pics designed nicely. guess i can throw it on ebay with a link to that site and to contact via aim/email (not connected to account info).
got a design magazine the other day that teaches ya how to throw paypal buttons on shopping carts, guess ill re-read that article

500 bucks
600 if he finds a sucker

these arent the good old days where a char could go for 1200 cause he was wearing t3

that's overpriced. paladin is one of the most boring classes in the game and good players frequently burn out on them in months. it's great he has different sets of gear, and lots of trinkets, but you're thinking about what HE considers valuable, and not the buyer. people typically interested in buying paladins either want great holy, or ret gear. they're not going to care that you have oodles of trinkets. and it's definitely not worth $1000, warriors are worth that much if they have epic tanking/dps/arena gear, and that's ontop of the fact that they're the funnest, noob friendly class in the game

that being said, the best way to advertise this is to highlight the specific good parts of the character, like..

BT/HYJAL ILLIDAN GEAR, T6, MAX S3, FULL RET GEAR etc etc

basically just everything you felt was important enough to tell tw, except in caps. the rest of the stuff will just make your ad look desperate, and those few items in itself should attract buyers (unfortunately ... you're selling a paladin, who the heck wants an epic paladin? think about that carefully)

There is no way you're getting 1k for that unless you find a sucker, especially considering how shitty paladins are these days.

Also, the closer to WotLK you get, the more prices will drop until the character is worthless.

Calx summed it up well. I agree with him fully.

well i guess im used to seeing good healers/paladins (me and him) and they are not boring unless ur not doing ur job.
but i agree its not an 'easy/newb' playable class. and if you 'see other t6 warriors going for $1000' ...please link?

i threw the same comments im getting his way initially, $1000 would be for someone looking for what he is selling, not convincing someone else to get it. but now there is more backing and i will prob not sell it for that much.

i know how to list ebay-style :) highlight description and in caps.

so, any additional help other than lower the price and use all caps?

im also prob gonna do a: CTProfiles - Index (http://www.ctprofiles.net/)

Looking at that and seeing how much poorly geared characters sell for I wonder how much I'd get for my priest. 4/5 S3, S3 weapon/wand (offhand and shoulders are waiting because I'm "team hopping" atm so I'm not really making a lot in points), 1500ish +healing, 493 resil, 11811 hp. Also have full pve set (engi goggles, full pmc, tk/ssc gear) with over 2k healing (pve specced), 205 mp5 (while casting, unbuffed). Oh and 12000 gold.

Well no I get that, but it just made me curious. I sold a T2 rogue with some AQ40 accessories and PVP weapons for over 400 just before the xpac came out. People are gullible.

If somebody says they are willing to pay $1000 for a paly they are trying to scam you out of the account.

It has been 3 weeks since somebody tried to scam my roommate out of a character she was selling for about 200 and she still doesn't have control of the account back even after faxing all her info to blizz.

They said they did it because she is a Chinese farmer haha.
