substance 02-15-2008, 03:43 AM To become a Death Knight in the upcoming expansion you need to be a Paladin right? I dont know why I think this but I cant find any kind of verification on the site.
Btw still looking for one more for Baby Patrol (http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528149).
jordanthug 02-15-2008, 04:09 AM No, you need to unlock the ability to become a death knight, probably through a really long chain of quests. Once you unlock it, your whole account gets the ability to make a death knight. Something like that
The Pumpkin King 02-15-2008, 08:30 AM Naw dude... You have to be a 300+ goat herder to do it. Gather as much milk as possible and save it for all the Norathian Goats. You get like 200 rep per turn in on the 5 stacks of milk and milk curd.
Eventually herding goats tempts your primal urges and turns you to the darkside. Then you take up the life of a rockstar, get the money, the power,
and all the women. THEN you come crashing down and end up with no house or cash like MC Hammer. When you are in jail, getting boned up the ass by Jimbo the kung fu dwarf... Then... and only then may you begin learning the dark arts and become a true Death Knight...
Blizzard has already released the information on the new expansion trade skills like goat herding and milk curding. Just do a google search for it...
Everyone can make a deathknight if they do the quest.

This is pretty much on the head, the only dispute now is what level a Death Knight will start when it's created on your account. Some are saying anywhere from lvl 70 - 75 or so but blizzard states Death Knights will start as a "high level".
Snaps 02-15-2008, 09:35 AM At blizzcon they said that the death knight would start out at level 30, but I am sure things have changed since then.
Ciceron 02-15-2008, 11:54 AM I want to be a gnome DK.
It will be truckloads of sweet.
yo Paul your PM box is full

Pointless really. A free level 30 saves you what, maybe 12 hours?

Ratorasniki 02-15-2008, 01:31 PM I'm really curious to see if this new death knight class is going to bring any new spell mechanics to the table or just be a rehash blend of other classes abilities. I'm going to laugh my ass off when everybody rolls one and it turns out they've created a new full blown pure tanking class so they can take warriors (most of whom don't really want to tank apparently) and do the DPS thing with them. Everybody'll get their DK to 80 and realize hey wait a minute, tanking in this game is both stressful and thankless, I'm going to go back to my warlock.
If they were smart they'd create a true support character since they're starting it at a nice high level already which would remove half of the issues behind creating one. Sort of like a really badass bard with a two handed sword and several genuinely unique spells.
Lack of actual solo killing power would limit the number, but there would be a dedicated few that would be very sought after.
Feannag 02-15-2008, 02:04 PM If they were smart
And therin lies the problem.
substance 02-15-2008, 02:22 PM One interesting difference between the death knight and other tanks is that death knights don’t use shields. This is also a good example of how our design concepts for the class are closely reflected in actual gameplay. If you think of a death knight, you think of this terrifyingly powerful warrior in heavy plate armor carrying around an enormous rune weapon, very much like Arthas does in the cinematics of Warcraft III. You don’t really see death knights hiding behind a shield – that’s just not their style. We take this design concept and then turn it into gameplay that is both fun and fitting for the class.
So when you see a death knight tanking, you’ll probably see a lot of things you wouldn’t see with any other class. The “modern” death knights resemble both the ones you saw in Warcraft III and the ones from Warcraft II, so they will combine powerful melee attacks with rune-based spellcasting to lay waste to whatever gets in their way. This mix of devastating melee abilities and magic attacks will be one of the many characteristics that set the death knight apart from other tanks.
But aside from just making them “different,” we’re also trying to make sure that death knights have the tools they need to fulfill their tanking role in groups – abilities that allow them to hold aggro and mitigate damage -- but also have a few twists to ensure that they’re distinct and valued contributors to the group.
Actually if you watch that trailer, you can see one of his spells is like a necromancer thing where he creates these zombies.
Ratorasniki 02-15-2008, 02:31 PM Either they're going to have some retardedly good parry related talents, or there's going to have to be something fairly gay like
Rune Shield of Better-Not-Drop-While-I'm-Tanking-A-Raid-Boss:
Castable 30 minute buff that reduces your chances to be crushed by 15%
or like dk class only swords with a block value and armor, which just seems silly.
|Blitzkrieg| 02-15-2008, 02:57 PM By the look of things, Blizzard is killing off the Crushing Blow mechanics anyways. But most likely it will be magic-based Shields and a lot of Parrying.
I'd also seen Blizzard say that the Death Knight would mostly be a tanking class. Its not to replace current tanking classes, only add to them (as tanks tend to be hard to find, no matter what class you're looking for).
Only time will tell though...
silentsam 02-15-2008, 03:08 PM Death Knight (hero class) - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft (http://www.wowwiki.com/Death_Knight_%28hero_clas s%29)
Abilities
Army of the Dead - Spell summons undead minions (ghouls) to fight for Death Knight. These creatures run around and attack things at random.
Unholy Embrace - Target is embraced by a silhouette of darkness for 6 seconds, corrupting any healing spells and effects cast upon or currently affecting the target to cause damage for 50% of their healing potential instead of restoring health. Any damage shields cast upon or currently affecting the target will also be instantly consumed, dealing 50% of their absorption potential in damage. Once afflicted with Unholy Embrace, the target cannot be afflicted with Unholy Embrace again for 1 minute.
Death and Decay - An area-of-effect damage spell.[9]
Blood Boil - A damage-over-time ability that after the duration refreshes two of your blood runes.[9]
Death Coil? Bornakk commented on this:[10]
We understand that Deathcoil is a spell Deathknights had in Warcraft 3. While things may change, we simply haven’t made a final decision regarding this yet.
Feannag 02-15-2008, 03:38 PM I'm more concerned about the "big thing" they'll do for Lich King". TBC was Stamina mainly. I mean they figure they'd try to make existing dungeons harder without actually making new ones and heroics was born. One of the main mechanics in heroics is bosses and trash hit for a lot more than they otherwise would. Well if even a tank in reasonable armor gets 2-shotted by trash, how do you fix that?
Add Stamina, lots of it...
If you look at outlands greens and compare them to old world greens they ones with Stam components have double what the old-world does. But then PvP and arenas came in. Now people were doing abusrd crits to each other with the new spells and skills further amplified by more spellpower/crit/hit stuff that they wanted to make arena last longer. So how do you solve the problem of people 1, 2, or 3-shotting each other with retarded crits without nerfing everything?
Add Resilience.
Not you stack resilience to cut down on being crit-ed yourself, and compound that with 8K+ all the way up to 12K or higher HP totals. Now arena takes longer because the focus is to survive.
Clearly they'll have to do something up the ante, and it will most likely snowball like it did in TBC.
-Masqu3- 02-16-2008, 02:22 AM DK, suppose to start anywhere between 50-70, and you will get the character when you complete a chain that is similar to the Warlock riding mount.
The end
