I am at 16% BF as of today after a long winter bulk and I feel like shit. This thread is for me to look at to help encourage me to get off my ass and hit the cardio again. It's hard cause my workout partner (my brother) is an accountant and has been skipping days cause of all his late nights. I'm gonna hafta start running ASAP. Oh god, so fat.
ZodiaK 02-11-2008, 10:26 PM good luck with it. i've got about 4 more weeks of bulking before i try to get the spring break body back.
when i don't have to be shirtless for a week i'll do a longer cycle
PoorDoggy 02-11-2008, 11:48 PM I feel you man. I'm adding cardio back in too, feeling a little too thick after a couple months bulking.
dweeb 02-12-2008, 12:37 AM I've been bulking for close to 21 years now.
Denver 02-12-2008, 03:39 AM it's that time of the spring again ? :D
this year I don't have much cutting to do. But yea gonna add more cardio too.
TechnoDonut 02-12-2008, 09:33 AM I'm going to have to ask: why would you ever stop doing cardio for an extended period?
*edit* unless you were injured.
I didn't, I just reduced my cardio because I was trying to add weight.

Interesting... not sure why one would want a fluctuating weight, but I'm sure you have your reasons.
It's a pretty common practice outside of maintenance phases.
Bomba 02-12-2008, 11:11 AM its just winter insulation! (at least thats what i tell myself :( )
I won't do a dirty bulk like this again, the results weren't any better than a cleaner bulk.
16% isnt that bad, you can probably still see most of your abs
It's pretty bad for me, but - overall - it's not too bad.
started heavy cardio again back in january, up to 3 miles a day now, feel better than I have in a long time
DillingerEscp 02-12-2008, 06:41 PM Im in the same boat, over xmas vacation (which for me, ended jan. 22nd... yay college) I gained lots of weight, which is good... but a good amount of fat too.
Radon006 02-12-2008, 08:15 PM Fuck... I was planning on no cardio for 3 months while I work some knee rehab but I want to be sexy for spring break :(
TAA WAR 02-12-2008, 11:55 PM Can someone explain to me what "cutting" is? Are you losing weight and gaining muscle, or are you maintaining weight but replace the fat with muscle?

Originally it seems to be from weightlifters/wrestlers and whomever forcibly losing mass in order to make their desired weight. This will be done by overworking/eating less. It is detrimental to health and strength but generally losing 5 pounds and a little strength would have better results than going up against guys who weigh 10 more pounds.
Right now it's used by a lot of I would say bodybuilders who want to sustain a higher weight than they're body would normally want. Bulking is eating excessively to gain muscle mass and fat while cutting is to lose the fat. Personally I think it's a flawed idea but it does seem to get total muscle mass. Then again it's probably better than being a lazy ass. The reason I don't like it is I would want a routine I can maintain for most of my life that is healthy and I really am not that interested in bulking up as much as possible. Though I guess I am a bit broader to begin with so it isn't something I worry myself about.

You could not be more wrong. When it comes to wrestling they mostly do crash diets and try to loose as much water weight as possible. That is different than cutting.
When you bulk you put your body in a caloric excess so that your body can produce as much muscle as it can.
When you cut you put your body at a very slight caloric deficiency. The key is to get rid of enough fat so that your muscles "pop" without loosing much muscle.
Denver 02-13-2008, 05:17 AM Perfect cut would mean, you only lose fat.
But realisticly you just try to lose fat as much as possible while losing as little as possible muscles.
