private realms are like play money poker... its an empty and pointless game and in no way gratifying unless you're the type of person entertained by shiney objects.

what if you like playing poker with your friends but all of you aren't making enough cash to warrant gambling it?

is it okay to play poker then or should they still toss the little bit of money they have to get the "real" experience (which can be had on most private servers).

one thing that is good about private servers (at least a little) is getting yourself familiar with some of the lvl 70 raids.

No, I don't give a shit about looks. Right now for me the fun is in trying to progress in PvE as a guild.

I don't pay FPS games because they just give you weapons and you don't have to play for several months and waste time to get the weapons. I only have fun when I use weapons that take me a very long time to get!

FPS are gay because you can run over to the enemy base in a matter of seconds~minute. I wish I had to spend weeks progressively leveling until I could grab their flag.

Neither circumstance occurs unless you setup your own server, suck up to the operators, or throw your money away so the owner can buy a new labtop.

Private servers can be just as slow and tedious as retail if you choose to play on a "blizzlike" realm. A lot of the gameplay is kindergarten by comparison because the majority of mobs aren't scripted to cast, they just do pure melee (including raid bosses). It is entirely dependent on the emulator software and database in use, some are more mature and feature complete than others (MaNGOS vs Ascent).
