I did not know what spinning was before I joined my current gym, but it's just a cycling class set to music with an instructor.
I avoided it for over 1/2 year despite hearing that it's a good cardio workout. Recently I started... it's mostly moms and old dudes, but it's actually a pretty good workout. the 1hr goes by pretty fast, which is a lot more cardio than I usually do. I also sweat a ton more than any other cardio.
This is a true story: I had an instructor of questionable sexual orientation, this issue of orientation was brought into greater question when the song selection turned to "Can you feel the love tonight" by Elton John. The instructor had us do a move known as "jumps" in the spin circle, which involves standing up and sitting back down on the saddle repeatedly. Halfway through the violation of my posterior set to the soulful ballad of Elton John, the faggotry of the situation dawned on me. I wept on the inside as the instructor gave me a smirk and a wink*.
*I might have imagined the smirk and wink.
