At level 9, I took my Night Elf to the Human noob area (Westfall) to play with my brother. Of course 3 level 70's told me this would be okay, and there would be no reprecussions. So after 2 hours of going through high level areas (where I got aggroed and died several times) and rebinding my rock, I find out I have to go back to the noob elf area (Teldrassil) to get my beastmaster spec and get a pet. Of course, this is a monumental bonehead move but in my defense, 3 level 70's said there were no reprecussions in doing it.

If its too difficult to get back, I just may reroll. I guess I have several options -

Level him up in the area until I can get back
Waste 2 hours getting back
Reroll

Everyone has drawbacks, If I were to reroll, it would be as a Druid, Shaman, or Rogue (gnome), none of which human, which puts me in the same spot. My brother is a 16 lock, and the whole idea was to level up with him. At what level is this possible without these problems? Not getting my BM quest means it'll be harder to level, and 2 hours is alot of time just to be following someone. However from the forums I've been reading BM is by far the easiest way to level up out of any class.

I looked at the map online and it looks like there are flights that can take you anywhere in the map, yet we walked for most (1 flight, 1 boat ride) of it. Is there transportation all the way back or am I screwed?

you can ask one of your level 70 mage friends to port you to the night elf city and its just a short walk from there. after level 10 and once you do the quests to learn to tame/feed a pet you dont need to go back there ever. there are hunter trainers in other cities. you might even be able to do the hunter quest from ironforge, the dwarf city

Presuming you got the flight points at Menethil, Ironforge and Stormwind, you can fly back to Menethil and take the boat from there back to Auberdine, then fly or take the boat back to the village outside of Darnassus.

Or, you can ask a mage friend to port you back to Darnassus.

You do not need to go anywhere to spend your talent points in beast mastery. You can do that whenever/wherever you level. If you get the tame beast skill at level 10, you may be able to get that from a hunter trainer in Stormwind or Ironforge.

Regarding "no reprecussions", you have to understand the perspective of a long term player. When you've been playing for a thousand hours, the 15 minutes it takes to get back to Teldrassil is hardly an insurmountable obstacle.

Oh dear. Someone will come shortly and give you a longer version but let me help a bit first.

First, you NEED your pet. This is like chopping your arm off, you NEED your pet, there is no other way to reference this. Your pet will literally cut your downtime by 90% and increase DPS by 50%. Your pet is your wall, your sacrifice play, your extra mob and your reduced repair bills. YOU NEED YOUR PET.

You can take a tram from Ironforge to Stormwind if you want a gnome in westfall, although I would wait until lvl 10-11. Run back from Westfall to Stormwind, take the tram from Stormwind to Ironforge (its in Dwarven district), fly to the Wetlands, take the boat directly to Darkshore, and then fly to Darnassus. It sounds long but it's probably 15 minutes.

Or, just make a new char. Dwarves/Gnomes u can tram to Stormwind at lvl 5 (lvl 1 really), and humans obviously are already there. Just make the run, keep your hunter and be happy.

Or, try to convince a mage to port you to darnassus and then you're there instantly :p

Wow, it doesn't sound like that big of a deal then. I dont know any mages, but I'm sure they can find one in thier guild that can teleport me. I sure dont want to ask in a city, but I couldn't I do that as a last resort.

I went to the class master in Stormwind who specifically told me to go back to teldrassil.

Sounds like its not that big of a deal then.

You can't train tame pet in the stormwind area because humans can't be hunters.

If you go outside Ironforge I'm pretty sure you can just do the dwarf version of the quest in dun morogh

dude, i fart 2 hours away a day starting at the bank. that is nothing, dont sweat it.

you'll be wasting alot of time (figuratively and literally) in this game. you'll waste days on some shit only for something to pop up unexpectedly making those days of work worthless. managing your time is important, but not so much when you are just hoppin in.

the rewarding part are those times when you are getting 4 things done at once :>

man being new at this game sucked.

Yeah, its such an easy game yet so difficult to learn. Having a bunch of guys tell you to do things with acronyms you have no clue about, or being told to do something you are not sure how to do sucks. I'm not 100 on getting my skills and professions. I haven't used any points yet. In DAOC, I avoided professions, but some guys I leveled with did that all the time. My brother seems to enjoy working on his fishing? profession.

I will say though, the online support from Blizzard and users is amazing. Some guy I was leveling with showed me a bunch of user websites (thottbot, wiki, etc.) that really helped out.

Don't worry too much about professions, they are mostly for money and that's probably not a huge problem for you since you have friends helping you out.

Once you get a better feel of the game you can go back and start them up.

do what I did.

If you have the expansion pay a mage to port you to the main outlands city zone that has portals to every other major city and bind there. I just started also but im on... eh can't remember the name of the server. Its what ever server the afterlife guild from eq is.

1. What you did is commonly known as the Wetlands Run. A lot of lowbies and noobs do it because not a lot of people like Darkshore and they want to head to Westfall to work on VC ASAP. There's no shame in it because you only have to do it once. A lot of people now simply pay a mage to portal them to a town (usually Shattrath if you have the expansion). If one of your 70 friends is a mage they should port you.

2. Given 1, you should have grabbed the FPs (Flight Paths) for Menethil, and Ironforge. That way if you have to go back to Teldressil you can simply fly back and avoid running through that area.

3. Calder may have a point, but to start the dwarf area you'd have to visit the hunter trainer in their lvl 5 - 10 town. You can't simply go to a hunter trainer and get it, the trainers in the starter zones have to direct you to IF. If you cannot get the quest at lvl 10 from the Dun Morogh hunter trainer than you would have to go back.

4. Like LOL said, don't worry about professions. Crafting takes more money than it puts out because more crafted items will not sell enough to offset the cost of training, gathering materials, etc. Just get two crafting professions (either skinning/mining or skinning /Herbalism) and pick up what you find and sell it on auction. If you go mining, get one of your 70 friends to hook you up with a mining sack from Outlands. They are common vendor items in the Hellfire Pennisula towns and at 20-slot capacity will allow you to hold a LOT of ore, metal, and stone.

*Note on Shatt*

If you can get to Shattrath via portal that's all fine, but keep this in mind. There's two factions there, Scryers and Aldors. The Scryers are all BEs and the Aldors are all Dreanei. If you play Dreanei or BE you HAVE to go to that respective inn. If you are BE and you head to Aldor's Rise they guards will attack you and they will either kill or banish you to the outer edges of the city. This only happens to Draenei or BE, the other races are free to choose, though you can take the choice again once you are 60.

level a profession while you level!

Honestly, unless this is your 4th/5th char it is a pretty big part of the game and with BC there are some pretty badass early 70 pieces to make.

Cooking is also useful, fishing is ok, but above all else (and I mean this)

LEVEL FIRST AID. Keep that shit maxed at all times. Eating food is a suckers game, you fight, kill, bandage up and repeat. It will literally save hours by 70.

If you want to be really leet, you can always level two gathering professions (mining + herbalism for example), banking all the mats until 70 and then powering through their counterparts (engineering/blacksmithing + alchemy for example) and selling the excess. Or just collect and sell for phat monies (skinning from 60-70 made me thousands for example).

And keep posting here; some of us know a tonne about this game and some of us are feannag/nail bomb/tankbuster, but we can all help :)

wowhead.com over thottbot, wow-loot.com is nice to aim for some pieces as you progress, and read the wow official forums for your class to get some ideas on the lingo, what's acceptible etc.

Lastly, almost anything in this game can be fixed, undone or redone. Don't stress over a bad move!

I have found that nothing beats Mining + Herbalism if you are just starting the game and need money. You might need to switch the tracking back and forth, but it's not that big of a problem.

Don't worry about it. Just have fun with the game.

If you need to reroll or want to reroll, then reroll. I didn't really level any of my first 2 or 3 characters past the mid 20-s. Just have fun.

JM5K is very VERY right about First Aid, especially if you PvP. Even if you can heal a bandage is your BFF when fighting the other side while questing. You can do it in combat, it doesn't pop your potion timer, and later on there's a lot of times you could get a full 8 seconds to bandage. And even if you can't get the full 8 seconds it's better than nothing.

As for your fuck-up, you're lvl 9... Seriously you can re-roll without losing much of anything. I usually get to lvl 9 in a couple of hours or less, much easier to re-roll on versus playing a class you don't like to lvl 45 and wasting more than a day or two of game-time for it.

Well, I went into the city, and asked around and literally within 5 minutes a mage sent me to Teldrassil. Most of the people in the game are very cool, but then I did have a level 70 randomly start killing my mobs (I'm assuming it was just to be a d!ck).

I'm going to go mainly BM, its fun to have your own tank and I kill stuff amazingly fast with it tanking and just shooting it. I dont even wait to heal anymore if its 1 level above me or lower. So far the best way to get xp seems to be grabbing every quest you can, and doing all the tasks in an area. Other than playing with my brother, I'm mainly solo'ing now. I haven't grouped yet, because to be quite honest I dont know wth I'm doing yet.

What mobs are the most efficient (grinding) for xp? Is it +1 level over, or is there diminishing returns?

so if I ever respec, what is the cost? Could I hypothetically do a total respec several times? I know the max cost is 10g, but is that per talent point or the everything during that session?

I know this sounds repetitive, but I'm not sure what gold is worth, I got 10 to start (and haven't used much), but I'm not sure how long it takes to earn at 70 or so.

AdreNaLiNe

You should be able to do these quests in Ironforge as well, if you stopped there along the way. Grinding is least efficient. Do your quests. With added xp bonus at 20, and quest xp bonus at 30, it's simply efficient to grind out quests, rather than mobs. There's a lot of guides floating around to make it easier as well.

I'd suggest picking up a mod or two, like TomTom and Lightheaded.

It's basically GPS for your quests and makes shit so much easier.

Gold is nice, but doesn't buy a lot due to TBC. If you want anything "nice", it can easily be 100-300g at the auction house. Those are twink items, essentially (unless you're on some shithole server). By the time you hit 70, if you save all of your gold, you can have anywhere between 3000-5000g depending on how you do your quests. At 70, your quest XP turns into gold, 1k for 1g. So if your quest xp is 12000, you get 12g. Gold is much easier to come by now than it used to be.

For a profession, if your friends have professions filled, like JC/Enchanting and stuff like that, I'd pick up a gathering profession like mining/herbalism. They sell real well if you're diligent about picking up herbs/ore along the way. Even low level shit can be sold to people who are too lazy to go farm it themselves. They'll simply buy it to level up a profession that depends on it, like BS/Engineering.
