Did the 9v9 1-of-every-class ladder ever get off the ground? That sounded like "the way it's meant to be played" to take a slogan from nvidia.

limits to classes = good
if you didn't limit the classes no scouts would ever get recruited and every match would be 4 solds 3 medics 1 demo in 8v8 and probably 3solds 2 meds 1 demo for 6v6

You can counter any of that using different classes.

Team is using 4 soldiers, 3 medics, 1 demo

Ok, go 2 snipers, 3 soldiers, 3 medics or something.

But that requires thinking and the ability for teams to switch classes and strats mid-game.

Looks interesting. If they keep it to minor stuff it'll be a nice way to spice things up. That medic gun they mentioned would be better than the other in like 90% of situations. Most medics are so worried about building uber (granted it's important, but still) that they forget about actually pushing forward the rest of the time.

I'd be really curious what say the pyro and demoman unlocks would be. Maybe we'll see the fire patch rockets or grenade cluster bomb things come back.

Just remove crits. That is all they would have to do and the game would be close to being as fun as Tribes (*note: No game will ever be AS GOOD as Tribes).

It is gay that crits can totally stop a push/defense. Saying that is fair cause both teams get crits is gay because if they were removed then the same would apply. If a team is so bad they can't kill the medic first then they should lose. If a team gets beat down because they have 4 scouts and 4 spys when the other team is balanced then they deserve to lose. Sure crits are fun when you get them, but its the exact opposite plus ten when you get crit on.

There's nothing wrong with the crits. Having a random element removes what would otherwise be a fairly boring rock paper scissors element to the game. Yes it sort of sucks getting crit, but think of it this way.

You don't like crits because (presumably) you're fairly good and getting crit is more or less the only way you get killed given a reasonably fair situation. That is to say, if you didn't occasionally get gibbed by a rocket that would have otherwise done like 10 splash damage to you, you probably wouldn't die much and would proceed to bitchslap their entire team.

That really isn't very much fun for the other team, and not every match is a competition match. You aren't always playing against equals, and it's nice for the underdog to have a small chance of getting a lucky hit to even the playing field. If you really are a good player, chances are you're going to be doing it a hell of a lot more to them than they are to you - especially with a pyro or a heavy (because we all know once you kill a few people with a heavy pretty much every bullet is a crit and it turns into a bloodbath real quickly).

If you kill 20 people for every death you have, and that death is because of a lucky crit from some schmo who doubled his score when he killed you, does it really take that much away from your gameplay experience to let him have his little moment?

Sorry dude, but one of my buddies that demos for 20id completely rapes teams in leagues (twl?, ogl, etc) with all demomen and a medic. The matches just end up with them trapping the enemy in their spawn by spamming.

Class limits are there for a reason.

Those teams must suck then. Demomen can be easily raped by scouts that don't suck, and pretty much any other class.

lols I'll like to watch someone counter the ridiculous amount of solds and medics the top team MW fields or even the demoman rush of C4, class limits are gud

We'll create an impenetrable wall of flame with 8 pyros.

I could see how a coordinated team could just go all demo, spam stickies on the spawn doors and then cycle through all the stickies so that there's always a constant carpet of explosive doom.
There's probably a way around it too anyways. The whole thing reminds me of RTS games where a patch changes something, some unit becomes OP and everyone bitches and tries to find ways around it until someone figures out a crazy counter and then another patch comes and changes something else and the cycle of crazy strats and crazy counters continues.
