Protien drinks before bed?

I'm running a split schedule right now with weight training at night. I'm usually done about 2 hours before bed. I have been drinking whey protein and water in the morning after working out, but I can't decide if i should only 2 hours before bed even though its after about an hour of cardio/weight

opinions?

drinking/eating before bed isn't so great since your body is trying to detox itself.

if you're gonna do it you should be drinking casein at night, and not whey.

100% Drink a shake at night, esp if u workout at night. your breaking down all that muscle tissue then just going to bed on an empty stomach? not good!

body needs protein to repair/rebuild muscle tissue, your body does most of its repairing/rebuilding while you sleep.

You should definitely be taking protein before bed, be it a shake or something slow burning like cottage cheese. Also, keep the carbs out of the equation when taking something before bed.

i don't think it really matters

when it comes to eating do it every 3 hours, 4 tops unless you're sleeping

stuff like this pales in comparison to that rule

instead of a protein drink, have 1/3 cup of cottage cheese w/ some crushed/sliced almonds on top... much lighter and it has the slow digesting protein that's really good for you and perfect for while you sleep.

yeah, cottage cheese\casein protein before bed

if I workout late, i do half casein half whey.

casein digests slower, purpose being to have the protein available all night(or as long as possible) so that your body doesn't pull what it needs from your muscles.

Also, protein synthesis takes place at pretty much all times, and is highest the following day, so you never want your body to go without protein if your training to add muscle, hence, eat at least 6 meals a day, and choose slow digesting proteins for night(since you fast for at least 8 hours).
