I have a show tomorrow and have the opportunity to use a violin bow for an OMG TRIPPY OMG part of a song. I used it today and it sounded pretty sweet, but my bandmates and I all had mixed opinions. It sounded cool, but would I look like a douchebag?
What should I do doods?

As long as it sounds cool you wouldn't look like a douche.

I wouldn't do it. Guitar strings aren't bowed like a violin, and it sounds pretty terrible imo, even when Paige did it. It's not like it takes any skill to do, but the crowd might still get a kick out of it. Let us know how it goes.

If you like the sound, do it. Who cares what it looks like? This is music we're talking about.

Don't use a violin bow. Use a cello bow. It works a lot better on guitar strings.
I vote no. Instead, whip out a slide and go to town.

Use an actual horse tail and dental floss it is much better suited for the ridged wound strings.
beware of kicking horse

it depends, does it actually sound good or just different
most of the time, it will come across as you attempting to get attention or seem edgy
I watched Sigur Ros use it to great effect live. The trick seems to be to use it with restraint - he was gentle and smooth and it screeeeeamed. very neat sound.
making me want to try it. :) How badly does this tear up the bows, and how much do they cost?
