Feannag 11-29-2007, 01:22 AM So 2.3 gave us new 12, 24, and 48 hour auctions for the same prices as 2, 8, and 24 respectively. I'm not sure about other realms but I seem to have noticeable price drops in short order. Most of my materials (ore and stone mostly) flux in price from day to day almost without warning. Heavy stone I would get for 8g/stack, and the next day it bottoms out at 3g/stack. Same happens with various ore (copper to mithril) as well as the occasional piece of gear. As near as I saw the 48-hour marker seems to only make it easier for a bunch of other people to undercut, and not only undercut but do it to each other repeatedly. It got to a point where someone was undercutting on those new LW so badly you could pick up the 24-slot back for only 3g more than the 20-slot one. Not sure what the viable utility on such a thing is but given the materials it seems easier to sell the mats and make more.
Has anyone else noticed anything else that may see off on the AH since 2.3 or is it just retards on my realm?
m00g00 11-29-2007, 02:19 AM i'm sure it happens everywhere. Thats what happens with an economic system like WoW. People will sell it just to make any money at all. Its just a virtual item with a virtual value, so most people don't care if they lose a couple gold out of it. But then again I don't think they think of it like that. They would rather sell the item cheap then have to put it up on the AH again and again, constantly losing gold.
Feannag 11-29-2007, 02:34 AM Yeah but I notice the sheer number of undercutters has noticeably increased with the new auction timers. On normal materials like ore, leather, stone, and even things like non-cuttable gems and cloth is silly. On my realm Medium and Heavy leather are the same price (50s/stack) and we're not talking 1 - 2 auctions, we're talke 18+ auctions across 4 people all 50s.
while malaise with the game may have an effect, typically games with ingame economies like this are great examples of economic theory in practice
the sample size is small enough to the point where reflected changes in supply/demand are apparently almost immediately, and what you're seeing most likely has little to do with the auction changes but more to do with the fact that season 3 just came out and people have something to do again besides fuck around with alts
alts are the reason that low level mats stay pricey. i bet your AH's living rubies or skyfire diamonds didn't drop in price.
I prefer putting stuff up Tuesday after maintenance anyway. Middle of the week there's less competition and you can set prices higher. By the weekend there's so many people trying to sell that everyone's forced to undercut everyone else.
Goofy 11-29-2007, 09:21 AM All I know is I'm glad I saved my BT gems until 2.3, gold++ :D

Wait - are they no longer bop?
Ender P. Wiggin 11-29-2007, 12:35 PM He probably means the final cuts, Thrakesh.
Goofy 11-29-2007, 12:40 PM Nah - the uncut shit; Pyrestone, Seaspray, etc.

always sell after maintenance and buy on sunday.
most people don't buy their gems/enchants until they actually receive the gear (maintenance rolls arena points over) because they're stupid
Yup. Not to mention that so many people put up stuff on Sunday night after a weekend of grinding/instances/crafting that the prices are driven way down.
PessimiStick 11-29-2007, 04:22 PM Wait - are they no longer bop?
They've never been BoP as far as I can remember.
JustinCase 11-29-2007, 06:11 PM I'm selling large prismatics for 35g lol, probably made 200g just last night
GraphiX 11-30-2007, 01:24 AM damn i only get 20-22g per lps :(
Gizmo 11-30-2007, 02:12 AM WTF 35g? :O
some guy sold me 4 void crystals for 70g and I turned right around and sold them for 140g :P
TseTse 11-30-2007, 06:48 AM i made about 1300g in the first 12 hours selling gems and particularly earthstorm
the new timers on sales certainly implies higher supply and more undercutting
there are 2 types of sellers:
1. those patiently selling materials
2. those trying to get quick cash
#2 is a very large part of the economy and these new AH timers mean they may have to undercut that much more cuz there will be more supply on many items.
Thrakesh 11-30-2007, 08:56 AM Ah- don't know why I thought they were bop.
