Urshilikai 11-28-2007, 03:28 PM 70 warlock here speaking from experience. granted i am affliction, but it would seem that weve been nerfed past other classes. i know what im doing with a warlock and even still pvp is rough sometimes. how do some of the other warlocks out there feel about blizzards recent nerfs to us and buffs to every other class. (btw im not a fearlock, i fight fair... usually)
Synth 11-28-2007, 03:36 PM LOL
1slob18c1 11-28-2007, 04:02 PM I hate playing on my warlock, because when I get jumped and only kill 2 out of the 3 that jump me, I know I fucked up.
Surge 11-28-2007, 04:06 PM this has to be a troll, right?
herbaltea 11-28-2007, 04:18 PM this has to be a troll, right?
I hope so.
Divinity 11-28-2007, 04:26 PM lol what the fuck
Blotter 11-28-2007, 04:38 PM i usually get owned on my lock but i think its because im terrible or something, maybe my spec, destruction ftl in pvp. dueling anyhow.
no one ever stays feared for more than 2 seconds.
warriors are the only people i can beat with ease.
Sir Lucius 11-28-2007, 04:49 PM Destruction is only good for being a shadow mage. OR SO THEY SAY.
I would probably enjoy being a lock if I didn't have to have a pet.
Surge 11-28-2007, 04:52 PM lucius what do you play
Swamp Kitten 11-28-2007, 05:01 PM i /lol at locks on my drood
Nail Bomb 11-28-2007, 05:08 PM i can shut down locks so bad on my hunter, now its a joke.
HaPpY 11-28-2007, 05:15 PM nerf mebers
Gundam 11-28-2007, 05:26 PM Well, the problem with Locks are that they are overnerfed, but only in some cases. SL/SL is the only rather viable PvP spec now and it is rather decent, the problem is instead of nerfing SL/SL to fix the class they nerfed the class overall, making affliction slightly underpowered for PvP and Destruction even worse. Part of the problem is that the Locks ONLY survival mechanism is fear, unless they have their succy out. Since the class needs distance to fight effectively the lack of a non-offensive survival mechanism creates a problem for balance. The problem is, to make the survival mechanism easily counterable Blizzard has removed the survivability from the specs that needed it and forced more and more people into SL/SL builds.
Blotter 11-28-2007, 05:45 PM is "SL/SL" siphon life and soul link?

MountainDewMike 11-28-2007, 05:52 PM is "SL/SL" siphon life and soul link?

Yes.
TseTse 11-28-2007, 06:07 PM Warlocks are still perfectly fine in PvP.
First of all, get over this nonsense about "fear locks." There is nothing wrong with using fear and there is no such fuckin thing anymore since there are such heavy diminishing returns.
In fact... fear is the most countered CC in the game so this notion of using it being "unfair" is silly. Every fuckin priest has fear ward, everybody has trinkets and a ton of other means to counter it. Very few locks in arena are full affliction, so barely any have insta-fears. That means it's wide open for interrupts... and an interrupt on fear shuts the lock's entire shadow abilities down.
My lock tips:
1. Bust your ass and have at least the season1/honor pieces. You need resilience and stam. Dont cry about dying if you arent in basic pvp gear. With the ability to buy season1 with honor, there's no excuse anymore. It's time invested, yes, but if you want to PvP then you gotta be prepared. It's like walking into a gun fight with a knife instead of a gun.
2. Use /focus macros and a UI addon that shows the focus target. If you dont know what im talking about, you better figure it out cuz you are NOT even remotely close to doing what you need to be doing without them. Ill post more info on that below, if folks want.
Focus macros should be used at least for spell lock & intercepts.
3. Use a proper PvP spec. Full affliction is fun and has its place, but there are very few arena team setups where it's really going to get you very far. There was more room in season1 for affliction locks, but there are just too many players out there who know how to handle you now to bank on it. SL-SL and heavy Demo are the standards.
Even with the nerfs, SL-SL is still strong. It's strengths are when you are tanking and/or in a setup designed to just outlast everybody. SL-SL & druid is so dominant in 2v2 because they can outlast just about everybody.
If your role will be more about burst dps, then you go heavy Demo. You can either put like 6 points in affliction or go heavy baller with all the extra points in destruction. The full Demo/Destro spec means you will basically just be spamming SBs even while tanking. You hit like a truck, and if your teammates can hold somebody down... your 3k SBs will be obliterating them, along with your felguard.
4. Learn to juke and manage LoS with teammate(s). For those who dont know, juking means you basically fake out somebody trying to interrupt you. You either start casting and then stop it before it's done, or you just cast something that makes them stop a dmg type that isnt that important. This means you try to get immolate up early to juke people as needed. You can also spam searing pain in the heat of battle (it's good dps) or even FORCE somebody to interrupt you with Soul Fire.ssssssssssss
5. For fuck's sake, keep curse of tongues up. Seriously, all casters oughta basically have CoT up at all times as best you can. Even on classes with lots of instant-casts, it will usually catch a fwe slower spells. In the worst case scenario, you're forcing somebody to be decursing.
HaPpY 11-28-2007, 06:09 PM cyclone > fear > everything
man i love this spell, so simple yet so versatile
Synth 11-28-2007, 06:17 PM yes, u owned last night, druids are amazing
Blotter 11-28-2007, 06:21 PM tsetse can you link a couple of specs for someone starting out in 5s.. ill be at about 150 resilience, im working on getting honor but ive been slow setting up the whole AFK honor macro horseshit. im coming from a destruction sac spec, with some pretty decent PvE gear, i can get nice crits (3500-4k) but im obviously very squishy.
im aware of everything you've listed, except a good spec to start with. i was thinking 6/44/11 because SL will help soak up SOME damage because of my lack of resilience, that and i have alot of crit gear so beefing up shadowbolt a little+shadowburn would compliment my current PvE gear... Is SL/SL worth it to re-gem all my shit? :x
So if I did do SL/SL (ive been lookin at armorys of high ranked 5v5 locks, seems to be the most popular except the occasioanl 6/44/11 variant), what pet in general is used? succbus for seduce? felhound for spellock/dispel? or do you use fel domination and just spawn what ya need? i would think its situational and fel domination comes in alot more handy than it does for PvE. just curious...
Synth 11-28-2007, 06:24 PM watch 5v5 videos from a lock POV, I don't have any offhand but I know they are out there and i'm sure tsetse knows of some.
