I know they have harddrives/patches/addons and part of the reason I havent played any FPS online in years is its pretty much half the people cheating and just not really fun.

So is playing games online for 360 legit?

Going to grab cod4 soon as I only really today even looked at it but im just curious

I haven't ran into a particular time where cheating was apparent. With the kill cam always on in pubs(afaik), you can see if it's complete bullshit or not.

It's the ultimate anti-cheat.

well i guess im sorta asking too, are 360 games "moddable" im not saying like a PC game but they seem like computer games at this point, we had a 360 at our house in college but I almost never played it

Im just not much of a tech geek havent been for 5 years at this point and am tired of all the shit I get from my PC tech wise with games.

I just want console simplicity in terms of getting games running and running well, and hopefully not half the server wall hacking

My job @ Sony was basically monitor and prevention of this problem.

First and foremost. Anything can be hacked. So in Theory yes.
Most of the time, what people will do is patch in (or what they call flip the bit) memory addresses to allow them things like Full health x1000000, unlimited ammo, weapons youre not allowed in MP etc. This is a lot harder to do with Live because of the way the live system works.

The way Sony combats this now, is not too far off from how the xbox live team does im sure. So in effect, its possible yes, but once its done they have a memory footprint of what you did in logs and can stop it as soon as its found out.

The only type of cheating you are going to find to be rampant w/ the 360 is "standby" cheaters. people who will throw their modem in and out of standby when you are near them so that they hop around on your screen and you can't shoot them.

Most software hacks are found and prevented with in a couple of days of them reaching public eye. I have run into situations where I call a guy bullshit, but its more his connection (or his attempt at ruining his connection at the right time) and not about them using "hacks" like you would think of them in the Computer Scene. They are there, but I doubt you would ever run into one, and if you did you wouldn't run into them a second time.

EDIT: To put it this way.. I was an avid computer gamer. always had the latest hardware, always playing the latest fps.. I hated consoles. Now? I never get on my computer for the same reasons you spoke of in the post above this. I can plug in, sit on my couch and play with the only factor between me losing a round and winning a round is not hacks, not my hardware, but skill and if they are lagging. I doubt Ill do much PC gaming anymore, after playing CoD 4 online now I can say with out a doubt giving up the keyboard and mouse is a very small price to pay for the perks I get from playing on the console.

i cant even get the cod4 demo to start up, my comp wont run games full screen for some reason, windowed fine, fullscreen nope.

I dont really play pc games, the only gave ive played in the past 3 years is wow so im glad to be getting a 360.

Plus now that i dont live with 6 people i realized living alone gets boring some nights

I havent ran into anything that is blatant cheating on 360, although that juggernaut sure seems to be sometimes! Like Vintage said, the biggest thing is pulling plugs or standby where you lag that Ive seen on console games. But that seemed to be more on football than anything.

You mean shadow/vesp ;o

And I haven't ran into any cheats on the 360, glitches have been the only real problem. Gears of War was plagued with them as well as Rainbow 6, but a lot of those glitches had to do with wall clipping. Not the same in COD4 since you can't take cover and/or lean behind walls.

standby fags are ALMOST as annoying as those retards who would roadie glitch in gears
