2Fort Kills servers.
Valve lied, granary dideDwarfVader 11-17-2007, 03:12 AM 2Fort Kills servers. HaPpY 11-17-2007, 08:03 AM 2fort is the chuck norris ron paul of TF2 maps JohnWayne 11-18-2007, 04:36 AM It was great they changed the map 1 hour before our CEVO playoff match. Thanks guys. Ghetto Youf 11-18-2007, 11:03 AM It was great they changed the map 1 hour before our CEVO playoff match. Thanks guys. You're right, valve should only make updates in sync with your personal schedule. At0m|c 11-18-2007, 01:13 PM It was great they changed the map 1 hour before our CEVO playoff match. Thanks guys. Has to happen to somebody no matter when they push the update. JoMo 11-18-2007, 02:22 PM It was great they changed the map 1 hour before our CEVO playoff match. Thanks guys. Oh, you lost Felonius 11-18-2007, 03:10 PM They changed it right before all of the semi-finals CEVO matches were about to start. CEVO was the first big tournament for the game, and most dev teams in other games would generally take care not to disrupt the top level of competition in their game. However, Valve never created this game with competition play in mind, so they don't really care. The new changes to granary are apparently worse for pubs as well. In competition you can almost never come back if you happen to lose the initial battle... And it's very easy to lose an initial battle. One lucky crit on your medic and it's over. Most game companies have begun to target casual players in multiplayer ever since World of Warcraft came along and made a bazillion dollars. Take Company of Heroes for example -- the original had a extremely challenging and competitive 1v1 and 2v2 play, albeit a tad imbalanced. But most people played it for the single player campaign, and those that did play online tended to prefer the 2 hour campfest maps where you sit and build fifty units and run them into each other in a big blob, which is a stark contrast to the fast-paced highly tactical play that would occur when good players would compete. With the expansion (Opposing Fronts) Relic pretty much abandoned competitive play entirely and specifically created the new maps and factions to be more "blob vs blob" a la Command and Conquer, where you just build big groups of units, select all units on the screen and click Attack on the enemy base or enemy blob. The multiplayer component is worse, but it caters more to the terrible RTS player while leaving the competitive one with nothing of interest. Given enough effort, it's entirely possible to please both pubbers and the competitive crowd, but most companies these days feel it's not a good investment to appease the smaller percentage that is the competitive community. It is short-sighted in my opinion, however, considering that as a game progresses people tend to become bored with pubbing and look for a bit more depth to the game... And that depth is usually found in videocasted matches, watching replays/demos of pros, and of course participating in competition itself. Hellsfury 11-18-2007, 03:15 PM Granary seems a little boring now. Adjusting the map architecture around the first cap points was ok, but moving the spawn points closer and shortening the respawn delay was a bit too much. The map can roll even faster now then it did before. Valve should unfuck this map and hurry up with the release of the new ones :). Hellsfury 11-18-2007, 03:18 PM Well, Valve is just targeting the larger portion of it's consumer base. Most players in most games do not play competitively. They are casual gamers. Competition is healthy for any game, for sure. Ignoring that is dumb, games that forget that are short lived as the attention span of Casual gamers are fickle. Look at Tribes 1, you might say T1 evolved into a game more suited to Competition Players then Casual Pub play. The game is dead. The game was a "niche" game, you either got it, or could handle it, or... you went and played something else... like BF1942... which is now on it's 3 successful sequel and is a huge bread winning franchise for it's publishers and developer. JoMo 11-18-2007, 03:40 PM Yeah, they made granary worse. To me, there was nothing wrong with it. There are far more problems with 2fort. Pubs die when that map comes up. There are problems with hydro being too 'chokepoint'. But I always thought granary was fine the way it was. JohnWayne 11-18-2007, 04:11 PM You guys can rip on me all you want. But it doesn't change the fact that is was lame. :-P Felonius 11-18-2007, 04:20 PM Oh, you lost They lost to perhaps the #5 team in the game right now. It's nothing to be ashamed about heh. JoMo 11-18-2007, 05:09 PM They lost to perhaps the #5 team in the game right now. It's nothing to be ashamed about heh. Yeah, I asked if they won or lost, then I went and checked on cevo and saw the loss, so I changed the text. That wasn't a OMG U SUCK U LOST kind of post. :p Calder 11-18-2007, 09:46 PM Retarded in comp. Now it's even more whoever gets the middle point first. I died once right as they started trickling in to the second last point and had an 16 second res timer. I'm pretty sure the person I killed before dying (scout) could run to our last point before I could. shaka_zulu705 12-03-2007, 02:53 AM i enjoy all maps but 2fort. Fox 12-03-2007, 03:00 AM Maybe add another stairway up from the 1st level? I've always felt that it was a bit too easy to spot spies there. Most people coming up those stairs are spies. Then again, I don't play comp or really have a mastery of the game. JohnWayne 12-03-2007, 02:53 PM If you have 2 good teams the first to cap the middle point wins the map, hands down. It's actually worse than 2 fort imo now. Pubs, well it's fine. but you can really ninja points like well, because the respawns are soo low timewise now. But yah, SIT was decent.. honestly, we are a better team. Granary is our worst map for sure. And we really only have a starting 4. So I am not worried too much. We have to play AG on well in TGL, they just beat Doctors last night on Gravelpit. (took 4 overtimes) That will be fun. ;-] JoMo 12-03-2007, 02:56 PM I watched you guys scrim yesterday on (well) on the electrify! SourceTV JohnWayne :) Rilke 12-03-2007, 04:07 PM Making anything easier to capture is evidence that they don't play their own game. JohnWayne 12-03-2007, 04:36 PM I watched you guys scrim yesterday on (well) on the electrify! SourceTV JohnWayne :) No shit? Was it enjoyable? I always aim to please you Jomo. | ||
