[newb question] how do i put in scripts?

well now i made it worse, steam wont load up cause i opened the config file in notpad & now it is recongized as that. how do i make it back as a config file, fuck


edit3: it seems the config file is back to normal (i didnt mess with it at all) but steam still isnt working, says it encounters a problem each time i try to load it, any advice?

Why do you need a script for weapon switching?

i hate having to click to be able to switch weapons, rather i just move the mouse weapon & there is the next weapon, its over now i reinstalled steam, shit stopped working. im not gonna bother with getting scripts, ill deal

except im not. the functionality IS built into the game. thats why they have the alias command and all the other user commands that you can use in scripts. scripting is part of the game - you can think you are better for not using them or whatever, thats fine. but its ludicrous to act like scripting is not part of the game.

my point is just that using an option like 'fast weapon switch' is essentially a built in script provided by valve :)

There is a big difference between scripts that make say selecting which thing you want to build as an engi easier... and scripts that robo-automate certain functions of the game.

I'm sorry, but I think it's damn close to cheating to have a script that automatically turns on cloak after attack for the spy. Or a script that auto rocket jumps. :shrug: But that's the way I feel about it.

For the most part just about anybody who plays the game (as aposed to having the game play for them) is going to be capable of playing better. It's no different than people who couldn't ski properly in tribes getting a script to do a halfassed job for them, or people reading strategies about bosses in WoW before they even get to them without trying to figure it out for themselves.

Honestly I don't care what other people do, they paid for the game and so long as they aren't doing anything via script that isn't possible within the realm of playing as a human being it really makes no difference to me. I just really question at what point it becomes more efficient to just write a bot to play for you completely so you can go make a sandwich or watch tv, come back and check the stats page to see how well 'you' did, and then feel somehow satasfied with yourself.

I think you are saying skill > script, for instance mine disking skill > mine disk script. Not all scripts can be outdone by skill, infact some scripts become staples of competitive play. like jump.cs and a few others.

You didn't need to mash it like an idiot, and in fact doing so was counterproductive - but yeah my old keyboard's space bar is 'well used'. And I've heavy capped in ladder matches back in the day. It's not like it was hard.
