This game needs new (official) maps

I know there are a variety of custom maps floating around, and some of them may even be good/decent, but I'm getting really sick of the very few maps this game offers.

2fort is good but i'd really like it if they added a (difficult) way to get up out of the moat without going through the sewers. what i mean is that they could add a few small, widely-spaced 'blocks' on the walls (on both sides of the moat) so that you can climb up with a few skillful jumps. anyone going up this way would be vulnerable of course, so it would be a trade-off at best. i just hate going through the sewers. i also wish there were an alternate route upstairs in each base instead of only through the courtyard (or with a rocket jump as soldier/demo).

i sometimes wonder if it's just me that finds when i play scout on 2fort, my 2nd jump almost NEVER registers when jumping from the bridge over to the enemy base. like 80% of the time i just jump and fall, regardless of how long i space my jumps apart. i focus my hardest to get a nice clean doublejump and it fucks up every goddamn time. i think it might be my oldish wireless keyboard, but it only seems to happen consistently when i'm trying to make that jump.

dustbowl is a good map, but it could use some improvements that i don't feel like typing out at this point.

hydro is decent

most of the other maps i don't really care for that much.

well is alright, good map for spies so maybe it's not so bad

granary was my first favorite map, but now i pretty much hate it

are there any more fucking maps for this game? custom maps are sometimes good, but too often they lack attention to detail (in terms of specific map tactics).

Well the SDK just released the TF2 stuff a couple days ago. Good maps should follow.

I have that same problem, exactly as you describe it: ~80% failure, only that one specific jump, and so incredibly frustrating because the decision to pick scout was based on making that jump. And once you miss that jump, you start wishing ctrl-k was a viable option.

I bound jump to right-click in my scout conifg to eliminate the keyboard from the equation, but I haven't tried it enough times yet to say whether it improved the situation.

some of the custom maps out already can be kind of fun sometimes. i was on a surf map last night and had a lot of fun. though it turned into a spawn camp fest, and i ended up setting up sentries in the jail with 4 other people haha

HOLD CROUCH!

I like 2fort the least out of all the official maps. The amount of quality custom maps out there right now is rather overwhelming. They have a ton of amazing custom maps. I wouldn't mind seeing some new official maps, although right now I see no problem with playing the customs.

if you try to double jump too late it wont let you. (i think if you try to double jump after the apex of your jump it wont let you)

you are just jumping too late. hit the double jump earlier and you will make it every time.

and ctrl-k is /kill or /suicide or whatever, just bind a key to it if you want.

Tip to avoid fall damage = jump right before you hit the ground from your fall..

Most of the custom maps so far are not similar in 'style' to the stock maps (too square and not enough detail) and are extremely unoptimized...


We need some tribes maps, tailored for TF2 please.

Somehow I don't think Raindance, Stonehenge, DX would work out too well.

That's not it at all. They have set some sort of barrier that doesn't allow a double jump within a certain distance of the battlements. It's like it sets a flag that doesn't allow a double jump if you pass through going toward the battlement. You have to double jump much, much sooner than you normally would anywhere else in the game. It's really, really annoying, honestly. If you time a normal jump just right, and crouch, you will land on the battlement too, of course, but still, it's a fucking pain.

ehhh i dont know about all that - it happens to me all the time. trying to jump from the crates to the ledge on granary in the center point for instance...or jump onto the train cars on well. i know that you can jump late, but it seems like there is some barrier where you cant double jump during a certain period just past the apex. hell i dunno, i just know that i always do double jumps a bit before the apex and im fine :) but it is NOT just 2fort, there is no magical flag by map. its something in the way scout double jump works.

the thing about scouts double jump, is u HAVE to jump first while on the floor/ground. i had the problem where i would be waiting too late to hit the first jump. it doesnt matter when your 2nd jump happens.

edit: oh i see what you are saying - yea we must just be trying to jump late and are falling off the ledge before doing our first jump so we are essentially using our double jump as the first jump - gotcha. ok that would explain it more than our halfbrained theories of post apex and map flags :P (esp since i know u can double jump late as i do it to avoid falling dmg etc)


btw uno - sorry you didnt get to play yesterday - woulda liked to actually see you play :) also sorry i didnt get to see xil actually try (until later, maybe). woulda liked to see them actually steamroll us. at least i dominated half the team on well :)

I started working on a broadside base in hammer quite a awhile ago... Was going to do broadside with a bridge or 2 in between. If someone already has a finished BSP you should go for it or release it to the community. (any tribes structures BSPs kthx.)

i was going to bed, and only stayed up when i heard who they had got to scrim... Ya it wasnt anything against you guys, when we have ringers play we usually just play for fun... O engineer, no medic etc... i was tired ;p

i started bitching at them when they were trying to spawn camp you on well... they didnt listen :(
