Tribes 1 Problem - Only works in windowed mode

Every time I maximize my Tribes the screen just goes black and I can only play when windowed. Is this a driver related issue or something else?

i get the same problem tribes starts in windows mode. wont even bring up the custom cursor for tribes, and when i do maximize the right part of the screen goes black and i can only see the windowed part of tribes.

oh and my specs are: windows vista, geforce 8300gs 2gbram, im thinking it could be the windows vista.....
