Rockstar Psy 10-26-2007, 05:22 PM Well im new to guitar, and im looking for a decent distortion pedal. im not looking to go super heavy, something light that sounds nice when i play chords/different riffs. I tried the metalzone & that sounded like complete shit. Thanks suckas
AniMisM 10-26-2007, 08:52 PM ZOMG GUITAR RIG!!11!
But seriously, Native Instruments Guitar Rig (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=guitarline) is the shit, and Waves GTR (http://www.waves.com/content.aspx?id=93) ain't bad either. With Guitar Rig you can get their Rig Kontrol floorboard to use it as you would a regular multi-FX pedal or floorboard switcher. So it would be great with a laptop on stage, then output to a PA system (check out the BOSE L1 system (http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_STA TIC_PAGE_EVENT&url=/musicians/technology/l1_technology.jsp), it's brilliant). That's something I could see someone like yourself doing.
I have no idea what to recommend as far as hardware stomp boxes these days.
travelyan 10-26-2007, 09:17 PM podxt pro (is expensive)

what the hell man? what do you think im about to drop $1000? god damn i just want a (cheapish) distortion pedal, god damn you went overboard. you arent allowed back in this thread anymore >:o
Orestes 10-27-2007, 03:02 AM FUCK DIGITAL
edit: but rly, a cracked guitar rig is your best bet :(
or just go test pedals until you find what you like.
Alvarez 10-27-2007, 01:40 PM I really don't think there is a distortion pedal that even comes close to the sounds you can get out of a Rocktron Zombie pedal. Sure there are plenty of multi effects out there or little pedals with mini tubes but I really like the analog rectified distortion you can get out of a Zombie.
JMO!

** I am sure Ani was talking about a cracked version of Guitar Rig for free... However I am sure you want to be free of your cpu when you play.
assfrags 10-27-2007, 01:56 PM I used to have this pedal modeling pedal which would make your sound into a shitty version of a nice pedal and that zombie sound really is pretty badass.
But what I use:

MXR Doubleshot.
I really like having two different tones lined up and just being able to switch.
Also the EQ is pretty responsive and the Focus buttons double the possibilities.
A bit expensive though.
Edit: whatever you do don't buy one of those 30 or 40 dollar boss pedals, they sound like shit.
Rockstar Psy 10-28-2007, 01:26 AM thanks guys
travelyan 10-29-2007, 10:30 PM real world examples of guitar rig 2...
each of these songs were recorded with guitar rig 2 (warez'd!) presets, including the bass (low strings digitally tuned down an octave)... try to ignore everything but the guitar sound... '89 model carvin ultra v, stock passive pickups...

http://www.talkingmeat.com/travtemp/trav_lategoodbye2005.mp3 (clean)
http://www.talkingmeat.com/travtemp/trav_hidenowhere_mix1.mp3 (distorted)
i now use a pod xt and brand new emg 81/85 active pickups, since im not broke ass poor. much much better sound. as to an actual pedal, i can't help ya since i don't play live, but don't waste your cash on those $30 pieces of shit you find everywhere... invest
travelyan 10-29-2007, 10:51 PM i have posted those shitty things so many times before you've probably already heard them, just know they're done in guitar rig 2 ;-)

Rockstar Psy 11-01-2007, 11:22 PM FYI - Guess what was released yesterday:
Native.Instruments.Guitar .Rig.v3.0-AMPLiFY
downloading it now :D
old_skul 11-05-2007, 01:15 AM Um, if you want "distortion", get a Boss DS-1. Plain and simple.
If you want a good overdrive - which is subtly different - get a reissue TS-9 Tube Screamer.
