Audio Interfaces and Sound Cards

Would anyone who does some home recording like to share a bit about their setup? I'm trying to get started (very simply), and I'm having trouble sorting through all the bullshit.

What I'm really looking for is a nice firewire or USB2.0 Audio Interface that has low-latency and sounds decent. I record various instruments and would like to play with MIDI.

Any personal experiences or recommendations?

Thanks a lot,
