I'm like an inch from buying a new guitar.

What kind?

I dunno.

See, I'm really unhappy with the reliability of the 2 guitars I use live (a 1964 Framus StratoDeluxe and a 62 reissue Fender Jazzmaster {american})... and I am really thinking that it's about time I just buy a good, reliable, solid guitar.

Thinking SG.... that gets me pretty far from my original sound.. but they're really goddamned cool.

Either that or maaaybe a tele with a pair of humbuckers.... but everyone and their mom plays through a tele w/ a twin or ac30, so I'd like to avoid sounding just like everyone and their moms (despite the hotness of said moms).

Any other suggestions for good workhorse guitars? I'm looking for solid and versatile.

Sorry, old_skul, the parker fly is not in the running. :)

What's your price range loop? I think the Taylor T5-S is a pretty solid and versatile guitar.

Speaking of new guitars, whenever I start making a "real" income in about 3-6 months from now, my first music purchase will be a Jaguar HH:

I played one the other day and instantly fell in love with it.

I played that today (black... sooo much chrome).... but i bought an sg standard.

:)

the jag is goddamned cool though... i was tempted, given that it sounds BEAUTIFUL... but I had to go with the guitar I felt could take a severe beating.

I know SGs are quality guitars, but for some reason I've always been repulsed by their shape. I'm not entirely certain why.

I personally hate Gibson guitars and how they feel, but I have heard the SG is pretty heavy duty. Hell, it's good enough for Angus Young, it must be pretty solid.

I don't care for Les Paul, but man, Ani, have you ever played a firebird? Holy shit, what a guitar. Also a buddy of mine bought a 72 SG from a pawn shop and it is a tone monster with a baseball bat for a neck. Meat and potatas baby, meat and potatas.

plugging into my amp proves that my amp doesn't have the balls i need. jesus this guitar is a fucking MONSTER. the pickups put out a ridiculously hot tone, to a point where my distortion pedal (a NICE tech21nyc XXL) just sorta looks at me and shrugs like "what the fuck do you want ME to do?"....

unreal.

It's like it's too much guitar for me to take.

Very nice.
Is that a Fender strap on a Gibson? Better change that :p:

that IS a fender strap on a gibson. :) I love the fender straps, and I've used them since I started playing. If it would make you happy, I can take a sharpie to the "fender" logo.

You picked the right guitar, I think. A Parker is just that, with a carbon fiber fretboard, stainless steel frets, a Fishman piezo bridge, advanced electronics, a CF body glove, secret formula epoxy paint, and a fucked up shape.

But basically the exact same thing. :)

The tone you can get out of guitars like that are amazing. I don't like the look of SGs but man, you can get some sweet sounds out of them.
