I just ran across this 5 minutes ago...fucking shit.

Anyway, let's see what we can do in 4 days. Seems there's a couple of contests going where you can guarantee a slot in the guild beta phase 2.

This is our chance to actually be able to control our destiny so to speak.

Contest 1:
Guild Beta Contest:

So your guild didn't luck into an invite to the first wave of Guild Beta? Were you trapped in a vacation at your aunt's house in the middle of nowhere with no internet connection and couldn't get your guild application in on time? Well here's your chance to increase your odds! Starting today we'll be running several contests to give you guilds a chance to secure a spot on the Guild Beta Phase 2 list. The first of the contests (more will be added over the coming weeks) will be a simple and straightforward Best Guild Website contest.

The rules are as follow:
-Your guild website must be WAR themed, make use of those fansite kits we provide!

-If you were already selected for phase 1 of Guild Beta, you may not win.
The top 10 websites, based on the votes cast by myself and James will receive a place on the phase 2 list and a banner to display proudly on their guild site.

-Voting will be done by going through all entries and ranking our favorite 10, giving 10 points to #1 down to 1 point for #10. After that all points will be added, and the 10 highest totals will be declared the winners.

-We will be looking at overall appearance, functionality, WAR-ness (yeah, I made that up, but you know what I meant), and just general coolness.
NA based guilds only please. (This does include all regions not handled by GOA, such as Oz, NZ, Asia, CSA, Canada, etc.)

-Same as with Phase 1 of Guild Beta, the number of slots the guilds receive in phase 2 will be determined by overall guild size.

Contest will end on Friday, September 14th at 5pm EST.

Winners will not be posted but will be contacted individually, same as the guilds for Phase 1, it will be up to them whether or not they want to announce their good fortune to the world.
Entries should be Emailed to war-community AT mythic DOT ea DOT com with the subject line: Guild Beta Website Contest Entry

Guild Beta Contest Take 2:

Last week we started the Guild Website contest for the chance to win your guild a slot in the second phase of WAR Guild Beta. This week, we add another contest to the mix. Up for grabs once again is one of ten slots in the second phase of WAR's Guild Beta. This time it's all about the story. Tell us about your guild; it can be your history, what makes you great, a funny story or retelling of something that happened in a game, even a fan fiction centered around your guild in the WAR universe.

-If you were already selected for phase 1 of Guild Beta, you may not win.

-The top 10 entries, based on the votes cast by myself and James will receive a place on the phase 2 list.

-Voting will be done by going through all entries and ranking our favorite 10, giving 10 points to #1 down to 1 point for #10. After that all points will be added, and the 10 highest totals will be declared the winners.

-Spelling, grammar, punctuation and legibility will all be taken into account in the judging, so please use a spell-checker, get the best writer in the guild to submit it, etc.

-One entry per guild please, so talk it out amongst yourself before sending something in.

-NA based guilds only please. (This includes all regions not handled by GOA, such as Oz, NZ, Asia, CSA, Canada, etc.)

-Same as with Phase 1 of Guild Beta, the number of slots the guilds receive in phase 2 will be determined by overall guild size.

Contest will end on Friday, September 14th at 5pm EST.

-Winners will not be posted but will be contacted individually, same as the guilds for Phase 1, it will be up to them whether or not they want to announce their good fortune to the world.
Entries should be Emailed to war-community AT mythic DOT ea DOT com with the subject line: Guild Beta

I realize this is extremely short notice, but we have a lot of talented folks who would be able to make this happen.

Toss around ideas, make suggestions, volunteer...WHATEVER. The more participation the better.

This is our chance to throw what we've accomplished and what we're all about out there, and earn a spot in the Second wave of Guild Beta.

TEAM BE GO GO GO (this really needs to be submitted in the next day or two, so that it isnt a last day entry)

I'd strongly advise:

1. emphasizing warhammer MEDIA, esp videos and best wallpapers (the whole site has to become war-themed asap)

2. absolutely nothing about GW and crap (just mention tribes and state the date of Tribes1 to emphasize how long we've been around)

3. do the "choose your path" thing with the pics/links like in the thread. This is good PR while showing our interest, perhaps linked to member list

4. listing BE members but not going on and on about us too much

5. a page of member quotes about warhammer, but not canned or repetitive stuff like we've posted on forums. The complete set of quotes should contain references to (but not repeat):
- being DoaC fans
- being newsletter subscribers
- having vast experiences beta testing
- being competitive gamers

6. do not mention or link to TW... ever

7. indicate how many members are already in beta. That assumes it's like 6-12, if not then maybe don't bother or just mention it abstractly like "a couple of our members are lucky enough to already be active beta participants."

This is about their PR so... KEEP IT SIMPLE.

"I've been gaming since Pong. I've been a War newsletter subscriber for like 15 months. I've played just about every FPS out there and MMOs such as WoW, Fury, Planetside, Guild Wars, Matrix, RYL, Lineage, Ryzom, SWG, etc ... and nothing has excited me as much as Warhammer. The minds and talent behind DoaC are going to reinvent what the genre can do. Plus, these guys/girls know how to make you laugh!!" - TseTse

So like... i imagine this:

FRONTPAGE
Warhammer artwork, look slick and red
"News" about warhammer with emphasis on 2 vids & our submission
Mention how some BE'rs are in beta and we're eager to join as a clan
Add some cheese excitement about the recent gamespot interview (http://www.gamespot.com/video/520538/6177673/warhammer-online-age-of-reckoning-stage-demo--pax-2007) & paul's blog (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/behindTheScenes/vidPhoneDiaries/index.php)

MEDIA
Just regurgitate the best media for warhammer

ABOUT US
Very fucking short blurb about being a clan originally out of tribes
Memberlist using the Choose Path/Career listing/warhammer stuff
Member quotes & experience
Beta testing philosophy/rules (short expectations of ethics, QA & reputation)
Any nerd warhammer stuff folks can muster
"NOT RECRUITING"

Someone get loggy to write us something.

Why shouldn't we mention Guild Wars? Blood Eagle did great in that game, and really made a name for itself. It's probably the biggest claim to fame BE has. It was also one of the cornerstones of our original guild submission.

Wish I had found this earlier. 4 days isn't a lot of time :(

I'm going to work on the story of the guild. From Tribes to the Present. I'll post what I have eventually for suggestions/criticisms.

I'd encourage anyone who thinks they can, to also either whip up something in Photoshop or if writing's your thing, to write something up. If we have more than 1 story that can be submitted, we'll take a vote on it, or whatever.

As far as the website. To do anything, we have to get in touch with Arcane. He's the one responsible for Blood Eagle :: Warhammer Online (http://www.blood-eagle.com).

WTF is arcane? :(

This all rests on him being around in the next 3 days.

Yea, and look how well that went.

This event sounds like WoW PR. They explicitly ask in the first bullet point for the guild site to be Warhammer-themed. I dont think they could make themselves much clearer and i dont think ANY dev studio wants to hear about your wonderful guild achievements in competitor's games.

The goal is to reflect what they want to hear about warhammer from fans and what they want to HIGHLIGHT in guilds. It's fine to talk about ALL the games we've played and how War is the best, but to ramble about GW and to go into great detail about BE is not prolly a very good idea.

I mean, go ahead and write stuff up. I'm just one guy.

But i really strongly advise against doing much outside the boundaries of hyping warhammer. This isnt about beta invites as much as about PR for them, as i read it. We can rant about GW and all these other games, but i do think it has to in the end be framed as pro-War.

They want a short list of very pro-warhammer guild websites to highlight.

Personally, I think it "got us that far" because we weren't very active. The news page hadn't been updated in months, we had very few active members on the forums. The guild appeared dead.

That's even IF they actually looked at the applications and didn't just invite random people. Which by the look of things, it was completely randomized.

I don't see how touching on Guild Wars, a game which shows we have Beta experience AS A GUILD could possibly be a bad thing.

I do agree that WAR is our new focus and that should be shown in our entry. Guild Wars, however, is where most of Blood Eagle came from and that should never be ignored. It's something to be proud of.

We're tribes players. Some of us played GW. The achievements in GW are definitely something to be proud of... but not something to emphasize whatsoever on a submission to Warhammer Beta.

This is about getting into beta, not some abstract BE pride & identity. :D

EDIT: i do think a good guild narrative is an excellent idea... but it has to be ENTERTAINING not some boring explication of history.

They have TEN slots open. They want these to be linked sites that are fun and pump warhammer...

Nothing special but i've been making basic HTML sites for a decade+. Can maybe help with art/content too.

I'll help however possible, tho.

Honestly its a long shot but might as well try. I can't write good or make a website so yeah.. but if you want history I could provide some or something.

Things we can all do to help out:

1. Fun pro-warhammer or pro-BE quotes

2. Funny stories about BE or gaming in general

They want fun stuff they can link to...

Arcane, I'm working on a site too - but taking a different angle. I'll be on IRC in #warhammer this evening if you don't mind hopping on when you get home. I'll probably be around after 8:30 cst.

Oh, another idea... real life photos (preferably a lil goofy/fun) of BE members :)

Anything anyone wants to do is fine. We can do a vote right before submission to determine the best. Say, Thursday around 12pmEST, with voting to end Friday at 12pm EST?

I'm working on the history portion. Hopefully it won't turn out to be a shitty fan-fiction.

Nice job under the circumstances. BRAVO

Only criticism i can come up with, really: the member page being split up like that is confusing. much better to have one really long page/list

I think it would be better to hit them with a really long list on one steady inner page.
