I know plenty of endurance athletes who never step foot in a gym.

If he wants to focus on endurance and triathlon type "in shape"ness, there's really no reason to bother with a gym. Save the gym membership money for a year and buy an used tri bike.

I go to the gym to keep my strength up because I like to do sports like rock climbing and skiing that are more about strength than about endurance, but I have plenty of triathlon friends who think it's a total waste of time to be in the gym lifting weights instead of swimming, riding, or running.

Point being, you guys continually telling him, "Go to a gym you'll see better results" really don't get the point. Everyone has individual goals, and I'm sure he's considered a gym for meeting his.

I'mma gonna go with the kill hud pop up script guy on this one. blazindave doesn't want to add lots of mass. Developing big muscles is just going to slow him down and he seems to want speed and agility.

Hey you can't backpedal now.
My goal is to become stronger and stronger in my sense of the world and eventually do an ironman, so yea, adding 20 pounds of muscle or whatever you guys are suggesting would make traveling a few hundred miles a bit more difficult :\

You ever think your legs are part of that added weight in muscle? I can run just as much now as I did when I weighed 20 pounds less. Your legs get stronger and adapat to being able to carry more weight. Also, my mile time right now is faster than it was when i was in track in high school (over 4 years ago)

I also weighed about 135 in track. (160 now)

At the most about 4 miles. I'm trying to gain weight though, so usually just 2 :P

edit: I havent done that in a while though either, lately its just been sprints

Of course if you put more weight your legs will become stronger, but thats in accordance to that weight. It's easy to say my mile time is faster, but you don't take into account when the person has to run 20, 30, and even 40 km.

I just wanted to state for the record that I have nothing against bdave, and personally I wouldn't mind his hairy mandick inside my asshole.

Also, we should spar sometime :) how long have you be been in kyokushin kaiken(sp?)? Do you have your shodan yet? If you do, fly down to texas :D

oh and i forgot to mention in ventrilo last night, when you asked what kind of name goshin was. its just short for goshin jutsu. a self defensive martial art. I made the name because i forgot the password to this one(gizmo), then I remembered all of a sudden one day, and gave it to my friend chris(goshin).

blah blah blah nobody cares.

i'm not backpedaling

i'm not concerned with your condition; i've always made fun of your knowledge. like how you think high kicks are good for street fights. or you advise all these different kinds of pushup routines.

while you get results, anyone can get results if they do enough. the point was you really didn't understand the principles behind the exercises, like when you suggested that people whose knees hurt while running take up swimming instead "to build up the muscle around the knees and make them stronger for running" (right approach, completely wrong reasoning)

p.s. you still look like a goblin

People who have ligament disorders swim to help them become stronger. I had a friend who had that.
The different pushups routine are for people who don't have money for gyms or weights (durka is how it started) or people who are just starting out.
Concerning kicks, if you go on that cross fit website, there's one of the pros mentioning how a kick (to the head) is a very effective strategy in a fight. Go figure.
P.S. I look better than you ever will :)

Ive won lots of matches with a kick to the head.

Ive only kicked someone in the head once in a street fight though. As they are usually way more reckless. But it was on a drunken asshole. I was drunk too, I was surprised I even connected. Elbows and knees are way more effective (for me at least) in a street fight.

ROFL that is hilarious

btw they aren't effective in a street fight because you umm expose your balls to accidental destruction

and also anyone who keeps their hands up (read: doesn't do blazindave canuck karate" won't get knocked hard by it anyways
