And I mean worked out together, not just at the same time. Like spotting for each other or pacing each other on a run? How did you get there? What kind of stuff did you do?
I'm trying to help my girlfriend get back in shape, but it's tough because we're both pretty busy (I work, she works full time and goes to school part time). She can still kick my ass in a pool and I can whomp her on land. Trying to find some middle ground activities that we might both enjoy without the other one struggling to keep up.
I tried introducing weights, but she didn't seem interested. Any ideas?
Gizmo 08-29-2007, 12:28 PM I have tried this before with an ex gf. it sucked.
Besides not having any knowledge working with free weights. Theres just way she could spot me on any of my lifts if I wanted her to. also, she was more into cardio and at the time I was not. Anyway, if you go to a gym that has classes. Take a spin class together, good for men and women. Since shes better at swimming than you are, I would work on your swim game, so its something you can both do together.
I do not like working out with girls because they take away from my focus and talk too much.
Special---K 08-29-2007, 12:36 PM yeah my gf is a triathalete and just did her first marathon the other month...she's a beast with running, biking and swimming, stuff and I, of course, am much stronger than her
I have been biking and swimming 2-3 times a week but there's just no way I can keep up with her, and she can't afford to wait because she needs to train for her next event
she suggested spin class because she wants to excercise with me
I'm thinking about it because I don't really have a workout buddy since none of the guys I know down here really do that much besides kickball
I've actually heard spin class is fun
Gizmo 08-29-2007, 12:38 PM Spin class is nice, because you get pumped up, lots of motivation, its like having 40 workout buddies with you and you all want to achieve the same thing.
Keeping up with the instructor.
Its by far the most popular class at our gym for both men and women, closely followed by 24 Lift and yoga. We have a swim class too, and if your gym offers that you should try it out too I think, to help keep up with your wife :P
dweeb 08-29-2007, 01:27 PM  rollerblading? mountain biking - not just distance biking, but through trails and shit?
PoorDoggy 08-29-2007, 02:02 PM Tried playing tennis with my last girlfriend. She was horrendous though. Good workout for her, waste of time for me.
Bomba 08-29-2007, 02:09 PM once, it did not go well
Obskure 08-29-2007, 02:19 PM Try sex.
yes i've worked out with my girlfriends
it sucks
they whine and complain after like 10 minutes and want to leave
I'd like my girl to go to the gym, but I wouldn't wanna work out with her and have her get in the way. I don't think she'd be as into squats and deadlifts as I am :P
I tried it a few times. It sucks. They get "tired" or "bored" or some other dumb shit.
Fuck that bitch. Leave the men to workout with men and the women to workout with women, unless you're fucking.
Highlife 08-29-2007, 06:10 PM Try doing a program that involves a lot of exercises that women can feel comfortable doing.
Core workouts can be set up to be challenging for men and women. A lot of the exercises involve physioballs, compound movemnts, and dynamic stretching. Most of the stuff can be completed in about an hour including cardio.
I started a 12 week program about 3 weeks ago and it has been working me pretty hard and I have a couple girl friends work in with me and they love it.
edit. Make sure she actually desires to do it. If the desire isn't there she will bitch after a few minutes as ayz said.

Yes, this would be the heart of my dilemma. Sounds like spin class is the answer. I just hate having to spend money on a workout.
ZodiaK 08-29-2007, 07:43 PM my gf squats/deadlifts/benches and will sit down to watch ronnie coleman vids, too.
she thinks jay cutler is too whiny, though.
i don't know that there's any sort of trick for getting them into it. they have to be motivated on their own.

My partner and I go a couple classes together and we run together, but we lift seperately. It works well.
Fuzzy 08-30-2007, 10:25 AM dont waste your time, they never listen
Raven 09-02-2007, 03:03 PM No but Kyra Gracie came to my gym once and I rolled with her. It was cool and I managed to not pop a huge boner through my gi-pants.
she tapped me four times.
i bet shes really fun to work out with. it depends on wether or not your gf is actually motivated or an athlete.
working out with anyone who is unmotivated is shitty.

I am so jealous :( (of you).
Is she ironman, or what is her distance?
And no, i don't have time to waste.
