I haven't been doing cardio just for the fact that I can't stand running. So my question is, is would doing laps in a pool be a good substitution for cardio? If not, what are some things I can do besides running for cardio? I may just have to bite the bullet on this one, but thanks ahead of time for the help.

rowing (machine), cycling, elliptical, swimming, running, jogging and many sports are great cardio exercises

Swimming is great cardio, and if I'm not mistaken much more worthwhile than running.

That is debatable but yea, swimming is excellent for cardio. As is biking and rowing.

Swimming a good substitution for running?
I have found that this varies greatly on the pool you are in.

Can you elaborate on this?

If you are in a small pool, you have to stop alot. If the pool is large or like a lake, you can continue non stop and this helps alot.
I assume that is what he means.

Right, stupid question. Feel free to facepalm in my general direction.

No such thing as a stupid question. Sometimes something is so obvious that we miss it. No worries.

Yes, what blazindave said for the most part. Also, in the pool in my gym, kids aren't allowed in it. which is an important factor for me when deciding if i want to get into it.
