I am using an EZ bar and the bones in my forearms feel like they are going to snap with im doing curls. doesnt matter if its 70 lbs or 120, it hurts all the same. Its not a calcium issue, and I take vitamins..(but not for a week though). Ligaments maybe? I can work through it kicking and screaming or I can try any suggestions you guys give.

Probably tendons. I do curls with the ez curl bar as well, and that's what I think got my wrist fucked. It's pretty bad.

I don't even know what an EZ bar is.

But I know that "bone hurt" pain you're talking about. I got it really bad when I had to carry lots of heavy stuff at work (stacks of 20-ft lumber) that I couldn't grip well, which put a lot of strain on parts of my forearms (I don't know what exactly). But it hurt, it felt like when I first started working out, that "bone hurt" pain.

All I could do was ... not do the stuff that made it hurt like that. I started leaving my hands out of it if I couldn't get a good grip.

The specific location of the pain was the flesh on the underside of my forearm, towards the back, along the ridge that forms the plane that Tony Jaa would hit you in the face with. (I am bad at anatomy).

If this bone-pain feeling is, as SL83 suggests, tendon-related, it could make sense that some error in your technique could be placing undue stress on stabilizers ... I never do curls, but I can see how, in order to keep your hand straight and in line with your forearm and keep it from folding back, you'd have to be exerting quite a bit of effort with those tendons.

Needless to say, this can't happen with my favorite exercise, pullups, although you can hurt your wrist with those if you try something fairly retarded (http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11541073 #post11541073)

my forarms used to kill me, went away after awhile didnt really do anything special except maybe using a relaxed grip so my wrist wasnt locked taken weight off the forearm. but once it got better i went back to straight wrist

i had the same problem about 10 months ago; it was the worst doing barbell curls but i felt it in a few other exercises as well

i just kept working out and it went away eventually

Well my line of thinking is, if an exercise hurts..don't do it. I had the same problem using the straight bars (the ones for benching/squats etc) and switched over to the curl bar.

i'll try the relaxed grip and or/ get wrist straps to keep them straight

yea mr_luc..its on the back side of the forearm in that fleshy groove :)

I actually never locked my wrists and this was happening (I know exactly what feeling you're talking about.) I started locking my wrists and focusing on letting my muscle do the work and my bones (mainly the one on the right of your arm when your palm is facing down) stopped hurting.

Happened to me as well, and it sucked because it was happening just as I was getting huge improvements in strength and endurance with a new routine I was trying out.

The problem didn't go away either, I couldn't do heavier lifts and anything low rep pretty much killed. I experimented with different techniques, but it only got worse, so I took a 2 weeks rest to let it heal a bit.

When I came back, the pain would start again, so to substitute for the bicep training via curls, I switched over to compound exercises and had to switch back to really light weight curls to rehabilitate the wrists.

After about half a year of not working out, I'm still unable to do the heavier curls.

Not a good thing to have, it may have to do with genes though.

It's joint strain. Happens during curls when you over extend on the eccentric part of the movement. Try not to lock your elbows out.

so the elbows need to be tucked in more? ok i'll try that

i did try having my wrists loose, that didnt work. but it didnt hurt as bad when i had my forearms really straight and curled higher than the chest(lifted higher to the neck level)

this shit sucks

update: curl night.

Using the curl bar i dont know how im doing it wrong, but i think i am. There was a wider grip that i was using last night and it didnt hurt so bad. but the pain was off and on so its hard to tell. overhand grip for working the forearms had no pain. the 40lb dumbell curls didnt hurt nearly as bad as the curl bar with less weight(maybe 25lbs on each side)

Switch to Hammer curls until it goes away, never had this problem, and I curl up to 125lbs.

so the elbows need to be tucked in more? ok i'll try thatI meant don't overextend them at the bottom of the lift. I know a lot of times if I 'lock' the elbow join at the bottom of the curl, it'll put pressure on the joint instead of the muscle, and after a couple sets I get the bone pain.

I can't do curls because of the tendon pain I get in my right forearm.

I think it's probably related to bending my wrist all the way back in an injury when i was about 12.

Not even hammer curls?

This pain is the upper extremity's version of shin splints. As said before, the pain is due to a stretching of the tendons and even ligaments in and between the forearm.

Basically it is because when you do preacher curls or curls with similar motions you are isolating too much pressure on the forearm which leads to injury. From what I understand preacher curls are horrible for your biomechanics and shouldn't be done anyways. I stopped doing them a few months ago and have yet to have the pain again.

My left arm hurts like that when i do curls as well.

I always would just grab the dumbell or bar and grip that fucker as hard as i could and squeeze when i went through the motion. Then my tendons would hurt like hell when i released the pressure of my grip.

My wrists in general are weak so i started using wrist wraps when i'm doing biceps.

It has helped a lot because my wrists dont get strained as much so I can focus on not gripping it as hard.
