[Smoking]It's time to quit...

I've been smoking for the last couple years, on and off, about 1.5 packs/week. Most I've ever 'quit' for was a couple weeks, but I'd always just pick it up again. With my new diet and my new workout plan going so well... It's time to fucking stop this shit. I see this as a chance to increase my cardio time as well as help my body recover after heavy lifts.

Wish me luck. :( I'm kinda cravin' a smoke right now...

Quiting is very difficult, the longer you have smoked the worse it is when you quit..At least it was for me.
Started smoking with i was 15 , i am 33 now. I've been smoke free sense Jan 1-07, almost 9 months now..
Even Now i still get cravings , after a few drinks, after a good meal etc.
But it does get easier each month, for me the 3rd month was the hardest, after that now the smell of them makes me ill..Which helps alot in not wanting one.
Stay strong , stay away from things that make you want to smoke (drinking bars stuff like that).
I ate alot of spicey foods, or hot candy to help fight urge.

Good luck man. It is worth it in the end trust me, i feel better each day that passes.

If you're struggling, why not try something like this:

Nicotrol Helping Hand (http://www.nicotrol.com/nicotrol_demo.html)

My mom (smoked 20 some odd years) used this and hasn't looked back (7.5 years now). Or possibly Wellbutrin/Zyban? The nice thing about Wellbutrin/Zyban is its also a a bit of an appetite supressant.

That is exactly the way that I am. 2-3 weeks, then I crack.

And Shadow, you are so spot on with the good meal, few drinks cravings. I don't see me EVER not having cravings from things like that. My problem is that I am in college, and drinking on weekends is a no brainer. :( Did you just go cold turkey and haven't smoked since then? I've got to think one every here and there to ease my way into it is the way to go... ?

I guess I just have to think about how much better it's going to be for me. I ran for 2.5 miles in a light 25 min cardio last night. Most I've done for months.

Maybe treat it the same way they treat people with OCD. Every time you crave a smoke find something (a hobby) to do to replace the urge.

Maybe that'd help?

Also the smoking and drinking was the hardest thing for me to break. I just stopped doing it by cutting it in halves every time I went out to the bar (every other week).

dweeb yea cold turkey man, the hardest thing ive ever done. But i wanted to quit truely wanted to quit, i tried in the past but never made it longer than a few weeks.Even with stuff like smoke away and Stop smoking stuff. It makes a big difference, when you Want to quit.

One here and there is only going to make it tuffer for you, but i have a few friend that have done it this way and are still smoke free or social smokers(at bars).

Like Highlife said its habits, replace it with something else..I chew sugar free gum.
Avoid things that give you the cravings..

If i had to do again id go the direction Fi suggests..
Hope that helps .
Good luck.
