Spec'ing my priest for arena, and not sure what to do

about +1500 healing, i'm great at mashing buttons (who isn't?), but not sure what the holy/disc spec is for arena

OR

+700 spell/shadow damage, and do shadow and be a DPS class with some healing (yay for undead having 3 dot's)

Which route should I go? I'm gearing up my mage right now, hes ice of course, and I think everyone knows what route that goes, so still just deciding wtf to do with my priest.

Which should I focus on more, the mage, or priest?

whats your HP/resilience at

+heal whether it is 1500 or 300, it doesnt matter if u have sub 10k hp and 200 res as a holy/disc priest in arena

(since you will be focus fired on first, most of the time)

frost mages and holy/disc priests are both valuable assets, so it comes down to who u prefer to PvP with overall

yea, either way it comes down to who you play with and have max survivability re: gear (resilience and stam)

i can do either, thats not the point, i have sub 10k hp, its mainly gruuls/magtheridons/SSC healing gear, res is like 100, not much

the mage only hit 70 a week ago, i've just been doing trash like AB/WSG for quic k honor and easy HWL gear for some basic resillence

but for your basic 1500 rating teams, should the priest be shadow or holy/disc? and what holy/disc build is a good one, go into disc and get pain suppression, or focus on the holy tree and the anti crit stuff, etc?

it depends... on who you play with (i.e. class partner)...

you need to farm all the honor-bought epics, asap, on whichever you pick.

pain suppression is garbage imho

Good holy/disc priests make teams.

i've recently had this same dilemma, though my healing gear is not close to yours.

Ultimately I decided shadow. Initially shadow has more survivability then holy. You get the 15% less dmg obviously, but you aren't focused as much as a healer. Shadow is great for 2 dps 2v2 because I can spot heal in a pinch and obviously screw up ppl's worlds.. a non geared holy priest's only option really is to be on an avg 5v5 team where the other 4 have great gear. Otherwise your going to die within the first minute or 2 at a 1650 rating or better. Its easy for dps classes to have top end dmg gear b/c of raiding, healers are the ones who need the pvp resil gear the most.

Blessed Resilience > Shadowform.

I had worse gear than yours when I started pvping - I wore 2 pieces of hallowed, 2 pieces of HWL, some "of the physician" (it was the best pvp healing gear you could get actually - this was before the "wow epics suck, sorry lets fix that" buff). I had about 1000 healing, 10k life, 150 resil. This is the MINIMUM you need to maintain a 1500 rating. You MUST spec 28/33 or 27/34 if you go holy/disc. Pain supression is a fucking joke even with the dispel resist working (it does on PTR, but not live) and with no imp death...well. Yeah. You're pointless. Here's a few builds you could do:

28/33:
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxRMuhgkMZfVxucMo V0h)
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxRRuhgzMZfVxucMo V0h)
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxrMuhgzMZfVxucMo V0h)

27/34:
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=dxRMuhgzMZfVtucMo V0h)
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=dxRMuhgzMZfVxucMo Vzh)

Imp shield is garbage - it's about 200 damage at 3/3 vs 8% dispel resist for 2 points in SR. I personally don't have imp fort anymore either - but I have 11521 without a fort so I'm sitting in a position where I can lose a couple hundred hp and it's okay. I stuck with imp fort until 11k unbuffed.

Lightwell may be semi-useful in 2v2 with the healing coefficient - however it would have to be very stategically placed (preferably before death so as not to waste valuable imp death time) and is very situational. I personally won't be wasting the point in it.

shadowform > all.

if you are running 5v5's i'd def. spec shadow. you can either spec into imp mana burn in shadow or go more of a burst build w/ spower and imp mb. it sounds crazy going spower and imp mb in arenas but i assure you with a 4 dps team. that crit and shorter cd on mb are incredibly beneficial to your team.

my team is currently 2100+ about to break 2200 and our team is as follows.
spriest
combat rogue
arcane mage
ele shammy
resto druid

we rape shit, and are still moving up.

Spriests are so insanely hard to kill. I got 120 something kills and 2 deaths today in a WSG (29 twinkage). If you can pair up with a lock you are unstoppable imho.

Shadowpriests are only good on gib teams

Shadowpriests are only good on gib teams

This man speaks the truth. Shadowpriests, much like rogues and resto druids, shine in gib teams and struggle in any other setup.

While I do have a 29 shadow priest twink, I also have a 70 priest and I will tell you that life changes after shadowform.

My priest was always spec'd 28/33 for arenas. 28/33 when i started in pvp blues, up to my current 538 resil/10800hp unbuffed. Always 28/33.
Then I started paying attention to my combat logs. I don't get crit much. Multiple crits in 6 seconds just arnt going to happen regardless of BR, and it only gives a 60% chance of stopping that double crit anyway.
So I start looking at spec variations that dont involve putting 33 points in holy. I begin making specs with 3/3 absolution, 5/5 mental agility, every disc tier2 talent...etc etc
I even played around with reflective shield for a bit. Until the rogue in my 3v3 got pissed that deep wounds was reflecting back onto the warriors that got sheeped off me.

The new spec ive settled on is 47/14. In it I get every talent that improves my ability to dispell/manaburn/shield/renew. I increase my mana pool by 15%, and I get a nifty little spell that reduces my damage taken by 60% for 8 seconds.
All I had to drop was casting time and mana cost on Gheal, 10% scaling on heals and blessed resilience.

So far what I have noticed is this.

At that level do the 4 DPS burst team strategy (meaning go shadow). As you begin collecting arena points though prepare to take your priest into the healing role, bringing your team back to two healers. Id switch back to two solid healers at about 1800 rating. This is where it seems that you run into "decent" teams and you will be to begin to out play other teams and not just newb blow someone up to win.

I have 390 resil on my shaman, is there a certain point to where it just becomes
worthless to have more resiliance? Should I keep getting items with more +resil or would it be worthless?

Paladin, Shadow Priest, and Warlock?

Assuming that they're good and does not put the pussy on the pedestal.
