what's a good alternative to ctra?

i haven't tried grid yet.

I've only ever tried Pitbull, but it kicks ass. It's handy being able to see the targets of your whole party all the time. Looks a lot nicer than default as well.

If you do get Pitbull, I'd suggest finding a frame layout you like and copying it. Here's a good thread for that: Post cool PitBull layouts here! (http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=6878.0)

Pitbull can do just about any look you want.

I use Grid

Though as a paladin 90% of the time all I do is spam heals on the MT :/

Or assist the mob and BoP the person who pulled agro.

grid is apparently ideal for healing.

xperl or pitbull for overall high quality unit frames.

teh default raid frames are worth a try if you are addonphobic. just drag-drop from the titles in the raid tab. you can turn off backgrounds.
