What gear should I have when I'm just starting arenas?
Right now I'm working on getting either 2/2 Battlecast, or the Crown of the Sea Witch + some pants
What other gear should I shoot for, since I've been mainly PVE until now.

edit: I'm shooting for the season 2 epic dagger and a nice offhand, since the dagger has yet to drop off Prince for me

Stuff with lots of stam and resilience - basically as much honor gear as you can get.
Season 1 Arena gear will be purchasable with honor points when season 3 arrives to help you catch up.
If you don't have at least 8k hp and 150-200ish resilience to begin with, you're gonna get stomped, especially as a priest. You may quite playing arena just due to the sheer frustration of dying in three seconds every single game.

lol you don't really need res to do anything I have a few kara things on my holy priest and 1 pvp item the belt.
Me and a rogue who does not have pro pvp gear either we own a lot :D so just arena with what you have when your not doing arena go to bgs check the bg shop to see what you really want and aim for that.
All in all my PvE and 1 PvP and blues rogue well we own harcore so don't be fooled by spending 1k upgrading and shit just to lose it when you get arena points (unless your ubber rich and it does not matter)

It was announced at Blizzcon.
Also, I'd look at frozen shadowweave + all the epic honor gear you can wear + grand marshal blues to fill in the rest of the slots. This will give you a good starting point. Then you can start filling in blues with arena gear and then finally replace your frozen shadowweave with arena gear.

I highly recommend resilience. It reduces and smooths out the damage you receive. Obviously skills > gear, but gear helps a lot.
Also, unless you're doing well in Arenas, you're probably gonna be bringing in like 500 points a week. That's a little over 3 weeks until you get one season one item. The time it would take for you to replace your frozen shadoweave and battlecast gear would take 13 weeks at that rate.

Maybe it might be just be because I own 36 res and the only times I die is when we lose and thats only when we have a lock fear spam or something stunning me non stop which is lame also. I just out heal though he is shadow.. and I always tell my rogue buddy to take the shadow priest out first so maybe its different.

1) Resilience
2) Stamina
3) Spell Damage
Get PVP gear. Get 2 pieces of the GM (or HWL) blue set and all of the veteran's purple pieces, as well as the PVP neck and rings. The Halaa pants can hold you over if you don't get GM pants.
Start doing arena right away. Even if you blow and do 2v2 you will start collecting points to put towards your gear.
I'd suggest getting 2 pieces of season 1 gear (probably gloves and shoulders since they're cheap) for the 35 resil bonus (and lower cost) ASAP, and then move on and get 2 pieces of season 2 gear to replace the GM pieces..
If you're doing 5v5 and even 3v3 you will most likely be the first target the majority of the time, so you need to work on being a solid tank that can do formidable damage, not just some tard that blows his load and dies in 10 seconds.
That's what I'm doing on my mage. Currently 61 and I am considering simply grinding in AV for quite a while to start saving up some honor. It will be slower leveling, but I will get gear way faster once I hit 70 and be in the PVP game (all I care about) faster.
Yes you have to spend a crapload of honor. Dust off that AFK AV autoclicker and try not to get caught :)
