What to play..

A buddy of mine and his wife recently started playing.. I've been playing since the game came out so I don't really care what class I play. They both chose hunters.. They don't want to pvp, just quest/instance (normal server)

I guess my question is.. what should I play? What would be the best compliment for them? I was thinking paladin or a mage.. but I don't know..

What are your opinions on other classes that are fun to play/group with that also compliment for a good group make up..

I'd probably pick a hybrid. When trying to get a group for an instance, the healer and tank spots are of course the hardest to fill. By playing a hybrid that can fill either of those, you'll have less waiting around hopefully. So Druid, Pally or Shaman. Shaman probably has trouble tanking higher end things but who knows if this group will get that far. Druid can't rez at will, but with feign death they hopefully won't die all that terribly often. I'd guess Druid is best able to switch roles without respeccing, but I haven't played a Paladin at all.

druids can feign death now?

Yeah didn't think druids could FD :P

But yeah.. originally I had started up a rogue.. because they are easy to level and I enjoy them .. but a rogue just wouldn't fit in well into an all melee group.

Maybe I'll roll a paladin .. that way I can tank and/or heal.. I just always heard they are pretty slow to level...

I'd agree with shoddy: druid or pally. Makes finding groups much easier.

i would roll a paly, just so you could have the tanking/healing

i think he meant that the hunters can FD so they wont die because the druid can only brez every 30 minutes

i would think a mage or warlock would compliment them. as a melee you are going to spend most of your time running TO the mob, by the time you get there it will be dead. maybe an elemental shaman or balance druid while leveling up

Yes, just so. Having a rez doesn't help you if you yourself are dead (except for Shamans). Sorry that I worded it poorly.

Two hunters are going to have a hard time getting a group together anyway. If you pick DPS you're gonna have a nice time finding group, unless you can magically find a tank/healer pair lacking any DPS (not likely).

So that said, they should have gone like "warrior/any DPS class" and let you play healer or whatever. Healer/Tank/DPS would be a great threesome for instances, finding another healer or two more DPS would be np. You're pretty much pigeon-holed into pickin a healer or tank and having them "tag along" with you into groups.

Pallies are decent low level tanks, in the upper levels you really need the gear for it, and you have to drink between pulls because you mana pool and regen will suck, and all your threat is based upon righteous fury. They are slow to level solo relative to other classes.

Yeah I would kind of dread the paladin.. I doubt I would tank with him, probably more of a DPS/healer option..

The one guy mentioned mage/warlock as a good backup/addition .. perhaps I'll try a mage..

don't play a healer unless healing is what you really want to do

it's painfully boring otherwise

I've already leveled a priest to 70, loved healing @ 60. But my guild doesn't really use priests as healers at 70.. So playing a healadin could be fun..

For two hunters I'd probably go druid. You could pick up any irregularities in encounters (DPS if things are good, bear to tank to pick up aggro, or healer to heal if it came to it).

That is of course assuming they can learn to play hunters well and effectively, such as keeping shots down to control aggro, trap use to CC, etc.

Prot pallies are the best 5 man tanks in the game at higher levels. They generate huge amounts of threat up front, and can hold aggro on a ridiculous amount of mobs at once.

Mana only becomes an issue when groups do the typical CC 3 mobs and attack skull routine. If you just let the pally tank all 4 mobs like he is designed, he will get all his mana back from the heals, and the pulls will go way quicker than with a warrior or druid.

I just rolled a Shadow Priest, lvl 27 now, with a friend that made a Pally and a Warlock. So if we can't find a dedicated healer or a decent tank (aka we only get dps) we can fill the roles pretty easily.

So, my suggestion would be a Shadow Priest. If you can't fill the other roles then just have one of the hunters get Kresh for their tanking pet... We three manned WC when we were in our early / mid 20's and I just dotted them up and put heals on the turtle, worked really well.

Just hit level 13 on my mage.. it's so different starting on a new server from scratch. took up tailoring to make myself bags and gear, mining to make some $ on the AH.. been selling stacks of copper ore for 85s a stack.. so money is actually coming in pretty nicely!

I have a level 8 paladin as well.. so if i decide to switch .. doesn't take too long to level them up!
