go do weighted pullup ... nnnnow!mr_luc 08-02-2007, 11:46 PM Got curious, just tried this. 85lb max, 5 rep sets at 50lbs are where I'm at. edit: 6'4", 215lbs Gizmo 08-03-2007, 02:05 AM i do weighted pull-ups as well as weighted dips. although sometimes weighted dips hurt my wrists....especially if ive been nerding it up too much on the laptop for a while edit: with dips i can do 90 pounds, pulls not nearly as much, dont know the exact amount though. I cant tell if doing this is super useful, but it makes me feel like a badass. Bomba 08-03-2007, 02:26 AM 15rep sets with shoes on, oooo snap. mr_luc 08-03-2007, 07:25 AM 15rep sets with shoes on, oooo snap. Daaaaaaamn that's some cold breakfast son! I love pullups, but I just topped 20 strict pullups as my max, and if you can do more than 5 you may not be adding to muscle growth much. Normally I do them kipping and for other reasons than muscle growth (ie, they can be a super-intense exercise and they're good in metcon workouts). It seems to me as though the weighted pullup may well be the weapon with which one could go forth, conquering. Yet it's not very highly esteemed. Assuming we keep adding weight to the pullup (done!), is there any reason not to take it as seriously as rows or bench? SL83 08-03-2007, 08:05 AM Not at all. If you need to start adding weights on a belt or wrapping your feet around a dumbell to do pullups because unweighted is too easy, more power to you. And for weighted dips, keep your wrists straight, don't let them bend backwards. mr_luc 08-07-2007, 06:13 PM 5@50lbs, 1@70, 1@85 (max) Unchanged, but the 85 came with less fuss than last week. BeLiaL 08-07-2007, 06:34 PM I'm doing 3 sets of 10 with 45lbs right now, but it's becoming too easy so I'm gonna go for 55lbs next As for dips... I usually use a dip machine because it hurts to have all the weight hanging from my waist. On the machine, I do 3 sets of 12-15 @ 330lbs, on the bars with a weight belt, I can only handle 135lbs ripping my hips apart. mr_luc 08-08-2007, 07:12 AM I'm doing 3 sets of 10 with 45lbs right now, but it's becoming too easy so I'm gonna go for 55lbs next As for dips... I use one of my extra dumbbells, with a couple of bench plates, and then just leave my work boots on when I come home. Stick my feet down there, just wedge the boots in one way or another (honestly don't think it's the same 1 time to next) and then just go up, letting the boots hold onto the weight for me. As it gets up towards 100lbs I can see there being problems with that method. Actually, I think that maybe THIS is why this exercise isn't taken seriously. There's no dignified way of adding weight. BeLiaL 08-08-2007, 10:59 AM At my high school, we had a dip/pull-up "machine" that had a soft, comfortable weight belt attached to a pulley system that raised the stack of weights. I've never seen one of those in any gym I've been to, so I've always had to resort to buying my own weight belt (it's similar to support belts, but there is a chain that hangs from it so you can connect weights to it). I think this exercise isn't seen much for an entirely different reason. There are a lot of people who can't even do one pull-up, let alone so many that they actually need to add weight to progress. I agree with this. Also I love those chained weighted belts :| i use em for dips too. Skibbi9 08-08-2007, 01:20 PM I think this exercise isn't seen much for an entirely different reason.
