Recommended Protein Powder?

Hey Folks.

I'm finally at the stage of my weight loss where I can start thinking about muscle mass instead of only thinking about fat loss. I'm 5'11, 233, and sitting at about 26% bodyfat. While continuing to drop my weight, I want to gain about 10 pounds of muscle by December 1st. Any recommendations on a protein powder? I've been reading John Stone Fitness, but the only one I see on there is this company i've never heard of called AtLarge Nutrition.

Thanks for the advice!

i personally use the cheapest whey i can find, i dont give a fuck if its isolate or consentrate. whey by nature has the highest biological value to ur body / fastest absorbing / and hightly consentrated in bcaa. in conclusion recommend u got to costco or walmart and by the dirt :o

BioTest's Metabolic Drive:

TESTOSTERONE NATION - Protein Magic (http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=525024)

Nitrean by AtLarge Nutrition:

At Large Nutrition - Nitrean 4.6 lbs - Protein powder supplement. (http://atlargenutrition.com/nutrition_detail.php?prod ucts_id=1)

Proteins+ by Genuine Health
Genuine Health (http://shop.genuinehealth.com/ProductSelection.aspx?Pro ductID=2620&CategoryID=85&afid=8)

I also put in a blender:

1) Some cottage cheese
2) Milled flax seeds
3) Green tea
4) Crushed ice
5) Some low carb chocolate milk like Calorie Countdown by Hood (found at Walmart Neighborhood Market)

Makes for a great shake that you can balance your macronutrients however you want. I sometimes add some Stevia or Splenda if I want it more sweet.

This is the one on John Stone Fitness - so i guess its good? The deal is pretty good I guess (although i'm not sure whats good or not). 4.6 pounds for $45 sounds pretty reasonable. I'm guessing it'll last me a couple months?

eh, even gnc has 3 pound tubs for 30 bucks. that shit better have nanobugs in it that eat fat off your body.

It depends on how frequent you use it. Remember it's a supplement, not a complete protein replacement.

The tub has 70 scoops total. Each serving is 1 scoop and has 24g of great protein.

All 3 I listed are very high quality. If I had to choose one, I would say the Biotest is #1, with Nitrean following very close second, and Proteins+ third.

I use whey isolate from Allthewhey.Com but I just wanted to chime in and let you know putting on 10 lbs of muscle will stop your fat loss process. You can't lose significant amounts of fat and gain significant amounts of muscle at the same time. You need to be in a caloric excess to put on muscle, you need to be in a caloric deficit to lose fat.

i put on about 15 pounds doing non-weight exercises using myoplex 3 years ago in...3 or 4 months.

It's too expensive though for me now. 80 bucks for 75 usesI think

Hrrm - really? Everyone always seems to be saying here that they 'Lost xx amount of fat and gained xx amount of muscle' while they did their whole diet.

Guess those were stretches. So basically you are saying I should focus on weight loss entirely, hit my goal, then try to build muscle?

I wish it were that easy, it's just not possible though (naturally, steroids and such change things like that)

It's better if you lose the weight first, then bulk back up. When you start eating enough to gain muscle, you'll put on a bit of body fat too (no matter how clean your bulk) ... so that would probably be pretty discouraging if your goal is fat loss.

Many people I know try and cut as much fat as possible, then start their learn-mass gaining diet.

Rayn's right. Although I actually think it technically is possible to both lose fat and gain muscle mass, but it is extremely hard to do (pretty much impossible for most regular people with jobs/family) and requires an outrageous amount of preciseness and virtually zero deviation from heavy training and strict diet. You'll very likely need to pay someone to tell you exactly what to eat, when, how much, and the same for exercise.

I agree with Rayn that it is best to find what works best to first fix the fat so that you can at least alleviate any possible health risks, then worry about muscle gain.

Anything by Reflex is usually very good, although it can be expensive. I have a very cheap supplier so it works out great.
