Ouch, how do you go about repairing that? Lots of glue? I guess it's not a bolt-on? I would just get a new guitar at that point, geez.

its a dual cutaway Les Paul. He would prefer not to lose it and luckily he doesn't have to, especially with the new glues. It will be stronger than it was before, after I get done... still sad seeing it in 3 pieces.

It will need a lot of patience, moderate glue and some good clamping... I didn't have the clamp I wanted so I am taking it home to do it.

Do you know the story behind how it was broken?

He was rushing off of stage and dropped it into its case rushing from less than a foot and it hit the case wrong and broke down the side... In a fit of anger he smashed it after finding the crack. He then went into shock basically and came in almost crying to me.

The neck is back on but I still have it braced and will leave it braced until about 1PM to ensure all glue has set and then I will proceed with injecting a little bit more glue, hiding the crack marks, and matching its finish.

I also repaired a gorgeous Gibson ES175 saturday where the top had caved in due to humidity. I steamed the top and shimmed it slowly until the curve was back in the top and hopefully when I get back tomorrow the top will hold after I remove all the shims... It is at least playable again guaranteed.

Nice work man. Do these guitars you repair sound more or less the same after you're done, or do some have a distinct tonal difference? I guess you'd have to be the owner to really know.

You might lose some sustain because glue just doesn't resonate the same as 1 piece of wood and you have to take into consideration a 2 piece guitar became 3.

I doubt its enough to notice too awfully much... Gibson and other guitar company's brag about how they go with set necks instead of bolt ons because it is supposed to sustain better.

Hey Alvy, can you give me a decent price on a truss rod repair for my maple neck tele? The nut snapped off.

Woulda been done sooner but had to wait on Gibson Deluxe tuners to come in to finish it and make sure neck would take the weight.

POS camera in my MDA phone :( I don't have my mavica here... but I will try to get some better pics of it.

Are you sure those are dead pixels or possibly pocket dust? I get those spots from time to time but not always in the same area... I assumed it was dust?

here are some higher res shots of the repair... I also included some pics of the Gibson I mentioned previously.. The guy left it in the rain and when he brought it in it was falling apart and was about 2-3 inches wide. It is a big jazz box and supposed to be twice that easily... I restored the original form and it actually has great action.
