Earning Arena Points

I got hooked on PvP, and now I want to get cancer kids bow.
Thottbot World of Warcraft: Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix (http://thottbot.com/i31986)

Now, I know hunter's seem to suck pretty hard in arena...and I can see why. I'm speced as marks right now, so I don't have much survivability. I'm in a casual guild, so I doubt anyone is going to want to pair up for arena.

Can you do arena without a team (pug arena), or do I have to look for a team/better guild? I'm guessing I'll have to do the latter, and slowly play matches and build up points.

You can only pug skirmishes, which don't yield any points. Otherwise, yeah, you'll have to make/join a scrub team and start scrounging up points for it. You're not the only one that arena's casually, but just don't expect to get your bow in one week.

On our server at least, there's always people wanting to make a team on Monday night before the week's ratings are tallied up, so you could even find one in trade chat.

Putting together a group via trade will net you a nice 200 pts per week. Better off finding players who actually take arena serious.

Cancer Kid is on my server. Saw him yesterday, actually. He really doesn't get to play that often.

Do hunters just really blow in arena or something? I'm leveling my first hunter for the TW SH guild, and I know hunters can do good in BG, and they level fast, but I take it they suck in arenas?

There are 2 approaches, but both require something up front.

1. BUST YOUR ASS AND GET ALL THE HONOR GEAR

Belt. Bracers. Boots. Neck. Ring. Trinket. Cloak. You need those asap and anybody you team with needs to either have them or work as hard as you to get them. 2 weeks of farming honor oughta cover that.

2a. Find a rogue or druid to team with in 2v2 and try to hit 1600-1700 and stay there. Avoid playing between 4pm and 3am server time. Always seek to improve and communicate.

Do that for a few weeks, then build on that for a 3v3... then a 5v5.

2b. Find a 3v3 or 5v5 that plays regularly per week, that has everybody with at least the core honor gear and that can fit you in for your 30%.

Either way, you dont want to team with people who dont pvp and just think it would be cool to maybe kinda sorta possibly get gear eventually by "just doing 10 games." That shit doesnt work.

If you do a 3v3 or a 5v5, ONLY do it with active pvpers on a team based on classes that work right in arena together.

If I have one advice to give concerning arena, it's to pick a partner who has a LOT of PvP experience. I'm in a pretty casual guild of folks who just hit 70. I started a team with a druid who's pretty cool, but he didn't have too much PvP experience and it shows. It's very frustrating to get 250 pts per week.
