I want to go on a fruit and veggies diet.

Ok so, I need to lose some weight. The only problem for me is that I have trouble staying away from food that is high in calories (and tastes good). But, if I have a goal, or some type of limitation that I can set for myself, instead of just trying not to eat unhealthy stuff, I think I will do a lot better. SO, heres my question; will going on a fruit and vegetables diet be healthy for me? Or will it do more harm than good? I'm not going to become a vegetarian, but I need to start eating healthily. I will still eat meat, but only meat, and no bread or rice with it.

I do a lot of cardio because I play soccer, but even with that, I still have trouble keeping the weight off.

Any advice, comments, and ridicule is welcome. Thanks in advance TW.

Look, Ray, you've heard this here a zillion times:
Drink tons of water. Eat a balanced diet. Exercise. Calorie intake in proportion to your body structure. Don't take in more calories than you work off.
Sex counts as a work out.
Do it.

Don't do only fruit and veggies. It is a very difficult diet to maintain. Do as sl500 said. You wanna lose weight? WORK OUT MORE.

Do you eat a lot of crappy foods? Fast food and things like that?

Eating only fruits and veggies will make you lose weight I think. It would take huge amounts of raw fruits and veggies (no dressing or dips) to consume your daily caloric needs on them alone.

One problem is that this will not be a sustainable long term solution. Another is that insufficient protein or fat intakes will also be detrimental to your health. You'll probably be losing most of the weight as lean muscle mass vs fat stores.

Balanced diet is better way to reach your goals. It would help if you would post your current daily nutrition and exercise routine so you can get some more targeted advice.

This would also be ridiculously expensive.

This is why you can't keep the weight off. Stop eating fast food, and don't just go on a diet, but change your eating habits for life.

how is eating only fruit veggies and plain meat easier than just eating healthy? be logical for a minute dude.

what exactly are these "high calorie" foods you are too embarassed to say? Are you putting down a carton of ice cream after practice?

Eat Chicken breast, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes as the staple of your diet. eat only when hungry and stop when satisfied. spread the food out to 6 meals per day.

bah nm.

i would still suggest you try it.

however i'm not a fan of diets...diets are temporary. i'd really like you to shoot for a total lifestyle change with 100% commitment.

i do a lot of cardio, and some lifting, but it just seems like i am perpetually hungry. i always have good food in my house, and i always want to eat.

i am going to take your advice though and try to change things up as much as i can. that is why i was interested in a fruit and veggies diet, because then i could eat as much as i wanted, and still be healthy.

Try eating a little bit of unsalted peanuts with your meals. Don't quote me, but I believe the fiber in them will give you more of a full feeling.

Diet is more important than working out.
